Got in for a few minutes. Then got "Disconnected from server." Oh first day of an MMO, why do I even bother?

They brought the server down to fix an issue...Im VERY impressed with how fast they identify major issues and offer a fix...from the time they identified the issue, brought the server down and issued a patch was a matter of only 1hr. My past experienced with MMO Beta testing, we had downtime in excess of 8hrs while they fixed issues. If this is the kind of support we will get from Cryptic, this game is going to climb to the topOriginally posted by Colonel_Tighlon View PostGot in for a few minutes. I'm just struck by how many bugs I've personally seen, and how gigantic the patches are--it indicates a lot of work down, a whole lot more to go. I envision the programmers literally chained to their PCs and running on IVs of coffee and amphetamines. There's just a ginormous amount of man-hours of work going on there right now.
That's by far the thing I'm most impressed by. I personally think in the end their game is sort of lame except for the awesomely accurate sound effects and at least the looks and promise of starship combat, but there's nothing bad to be said about the team's work up to release.

Twink just wondering if you have played mmorpg's ever play a game called tibia?Originally posted by BigTwinky View PostI'll probably give it a whirl. I played MMOs from 1996 (when they were MMORPGs hehe) until about 2007, and at times pretty heavily (DAOC).
We have a close knit group of great MMO players who my wife and I have gamed online with since 2001, and we typically pick up games like this as a group. Knowing 2 of the people are ST fans, I think we'll at least do the 30 day trial period.

Starscream
This one's set far beyond the TNG era, isn't it? If so, that's unfortunate; I don't like the Star Trek design aesthetic that's been popular since that series' launch. Too many curves and weirdly-distorted shapes for the vessels, and I won't use a ship that's ugly.
...this is probably a good thing for my budget.

Since it's a bit ahead of TNG they designed all new ships. The new designs are a lot more sharp and angular. I'm currently using a Miranda class. (The Reliant from The Wrath of Khan.)
Check out shome shots of some ships here: Star Trek Online
And hey, if you pre-order from Gamestop you get the old Constitution class, the original Enterprise's design!

I'd want an original Excelsior or 1982 Enterprise; the presence of a good old Miranda is a heartening thing. Remember, folks: On a starship in Roddenberry's world, angular is good.Originally posted by Colonel_Tighlon View PostSince it's a bit ahead of TNG they designed all new ships.
