And as Bioshock via steam had 3 installs max it's not looking good. I wonder if this is going to be another Spore?

Yes, but they quickly removed that limit. From doing some "research" I don't believe that SecureRom is even on the Steam version anymore.
      Take a look: here.

Also, I don't think that it is true "installs" that it counts. Again, this is the Steam forum we are referencing here so I don't know how true it is, but there seems to be some agreement here.

That's a good description, here's some more information from someone who has set up SecuROM for clients.
You are correct that your activation information is stored locally so it only needs to be done the first time you run the game, subsequent runs will find the activation data already in place and so will skip the activation process.
You are also correct about uninstalling not removing the activation data. Developers rarely, if ever, bother to code their uninstaller to remove this. In fact more often than not, the developers themselves don't know where the activation data is, so they can't have their uninstaller remove it. The only time they might even worry about it is if they want their uninstaller to revoke the activation and return it to the server, even then they'd just have it run a revoke tool like the one 2K game had for Bioshock.
So as long as you don't format your hard drive or go looking for anything SecuROM to delete, the next time you install and run the game, it will act as if it was already activated because the activation data will still be there.
With SecuROM locking your activation to your hardware is optional, some developers use it, some don't. It's also configurable so it can be somewhat foregiving of hardware changes without needing to re-activate or it can be very strict and not allow any hardware changes. It's all pretty much up the the developer or publisher.
As far as Spore's three install limit, I believe that after about a year, EA will relax or remove that limitation by editing the Spore license data on the activation servers, just as 2K did with Bioshock.
Many people keep saying they won't buy until SecuROM is removed, I'm sorry to say it but those people will end up never buying because even if EA or 2K remove the activation limits, they will still want you to activate the game and for that they need SecuROM, so SecuROM will always be there.

        Figures

I suspected this! I really did, I figured everyone realized this and just figured you had all decided to live with it. IF you all are not going to get it due to this, please let me know, I'll boycott their arss if that appears to be what everyone else does.

I posted this question to Steam in the following pic.

Positive side - EA will probably realize "Hey, SecuROM sucks and loses us money! Let's take it off." eventually.

They will learn from Spore - hopefully

Well EA's handling of BF2 would say that not much after the initial sale means much. The support drops off quickly so if there is any complaining to be done it would need to be done before people buy this game.

They didn't learn from Bio-shock untill a few months down the line... If would have learned then this wouldn't be on there at all... I'm no longer buying E.A. products at all if C:W comes with S-U-R and DRM... I have better places to spend my money, like on Cain's lair.

                Little update.

Well, overlooking the manual with 3 buddies; it seems that Crysis Warhead does not have DRM. Now, it could have securom still; but judging from the manual... no drm on INSTALL limits are mentioned.

The only thing that the manual states:

" The CD key is only required when starting an online game using the Crysis Wars disc. Both Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars require separate installs using their respective discs. "

I hope that inserting the disk into the drive when the game comes out that it is completely 100% DRM free.

If so... Thank You EA! Looks like you have a customer back.
Still no hard evidence yet. Hope now it's out somebody will report back on it.

I think that's because it's the default limit. They can set this limit as high or low as they feel like.

Well I'm still giving the game a miss and every other game from EA from now on.

I don't see anything in the picture that says anything about 3 installs.

I would be interested in seeing if this is the case if you were to purchase this through Steam.
