    Don't make the mistake of thinking redneck=southener. Rednecks come in all shapes, sizes, genders, geographic locations, sexual orientations, colors and just about any other way you can think of labelling a person. Redneck is a state of mind. I know this because I come from pure West Virginia back woods stock. My people were Hillbillies, 2 steps down the ladder from rednecks. I personally am a Bumpkin, the missing link between the two. Here's a simple quiz for you to decide. If little children in your family ride in car seats designed to fit in the back and protect them from crashes then you are not a redneck. If the children ride on the center console in the front-> Redneck. If they ride on the center console and hold dad's spit cup and mom's beer whle the car is moving -> Bumpkin. If you say "What's a car?" -> Hillbilly. No this is not stolen from Jeff Foxworthy, this is honest to God how I came up. If the smoke detector in your kitchen is a cooking utensil -> Redneck. (Example: place assorted meat in a cast iron skillet, when the smoke detector goes off flip it.) Once again I am not making this up. If you have a rebel flag tattood on your neck -> Redneck. I know that guy.

    Jeff has plenty of other tests (God help me, they're accurate and my kin) you can try out and I'm sure this thread is about to list them.

    Chances are if you are reading this thread then you are not in fact a redneck.

      I don't take it personally when someone calls me a redneck. I actually get a kick out of it. If they are serious when they say it, I'm usually in game and humiliate them, anyway, after I stab them a few times or blow them up a lot.

          LOL!

          "....not much better..."

          LMAO!

          I'd much rather be a redneck than a canadian.

              Let's not get on the dark side with this. I meant no offense to anyone by using the word redneck. Hell, people call me "Cracka" all the time, even other "whites", it doesn't offend me.

                LoL. You didn't offend me... you'd have to actually TRY to do that and still may be unsuccessful.

                    Thank God, thank you Jeffro for saying the magic words. I have not in any way taken offense to the use of the the term redneck here, BUT let me say Wooaaaa there nelly. Let's regress a little, hehehe, he said regress, any way. I think this conversation has taken a little bit of the unintentional turn. It seems the dis-owning of the term, except for some, has become preferred.
                    I am here to say, I am a proud redneck from Plymouth, NC, actually not from plymouth but out side of it on a rural route.
                    Despite what the public has been flooded with, the term redneck is NOT the find your car in your yard when you mow it or your porch fell and killed 3 of your dogs. Nooooooo, rednecks, if you do a little research, is not something to be ashamed of.
                    What I do take affense to is the way our buddy, and I do find him funny, Jeff F. has taken a word like redneck and portrayed it to the non-southern US citizens as a stupid, dirty, worthless, etc individual that deserves nothing but to be laughed at.
                    I'm not trying to go off on a tangent here, but I do want it said,
                    -I grew up on farm;
                    -I have slopped hogs in the cold winter and hot summer;
                    -I have also cleaned them hog pens;
                    -I have plowed that field;
                    -I have primed that tobacco in 110 degree, 90% humidity weather
                    -I have hunted them deer, squirrel, rabbits, etc and cleaned them never wasting a bit
                    -I have sat in that field at 12 midnight as a little boy watching my dad pick corn, freezing my butt off wondering when we would go home
                    -I am proud to know my family raised me the best they could despite the lack of money
                    -I am proud of my military brothers and sisters, not just because my dad was a Korean war Vet, but because I've been there done that

                    To stop my ranting, I could go on and on with the other stuff, but the point I want to make is this, I am proud to say to the world or anyone, I AM STILL A REDNECK and I am educated and I work for the world largest DoD contractor.
                    I'll shut up on this by saying, you'll find different definitions of a redneck, but the bottom line is the term came from describing an individual that had a red neck from being out in the sun, usually from hard work outside and some one wanted to belittle them by calling them a redneck. So if someone calls you a redneck, don't take offense to it, take pride in the term.
                    I know I do and it confuses the crap outta them.

                    Cheers
                    DougBob

                    P.S. I started not to hit Submit Reply on this, but then I thought... no, that would be saying I'm not proud of what I am and I want my brothers and sisters of Cain's Lair to know, I may have lost some of my accent but I'm still a redneck at heart.

                          I really didn't mean to scare everyone off. I wasn't upset, I just wanted everyone to think see if from a different angle.
