Is there any way to turn this off? The gg's at the end are one thing but the constant back and forth gets very annoying. Most of the time I don't notice it but it does take up space on the screen when people are having entire conversations in text during the game.

Eh?
The whole point of playing with other people is the social aspect. Last night with a bunch of people talking politics it was a bit much but the back and forth banter is the whole reason I play. Without all that it might as well be SP.

Eh it's just a personal preference to not have it taking up space on my screen and blocking things.

Eh as far as I can tell it's not possible, sorry. I'd suggest trying to ignore it, but that's sometimes not possible either.

Yeah I have searched everywhere and it has been requested for the 1.6 update for client and server side so hopefully they will add it.
I guess I could change my resolution to 1280x1024 so the text is smaller but then my FPS would go downhill fast. Ah well anyway it was worth a shot.

My point exaclty- Politics, Sex, and religion should be taboo in my opinion. They are too inflamatory and it is impossible to have a good natured conversation online without the context getting all screwed up.
In the end, its far better to avoid this.

Heck, when I'm playing, it is HARD for me to see it. I usually don't see it when someone says something to me because I'm usually into the game and miss all of it. I don't even notice it.Originally posted by L_MoEh as far as I can tell it's not possible, sorry. I'd suggest trying to ignore it, but that's sometimes not possible either.

Well I changed my screen resolution to 1280x1024 and I can hardly see the text now. I was running 800x600 so long sentences went almost to the middle of my screen. My FPS is not good at the current resolution but I will try it for a while. Good excuse to buy a new monitor I guess.

And on the other hand, as mentioned last night, there were at least two admins in the server at that time, and we would have shut down the conversation had it gotten out of hand. It did not get to that point where either of us felt it necessary. Therego, it is in fact possible to have a good natured conversation online.Originally posted by AngryHamsterThanks Zoid!Originally posted by Dr_ZoidbergEh?

Keep in mind that almost half of those participating in the discussion last night have known each other, played CL games together, and posted coherent arguments on these forums for several years. There was good-natured tweaking, balanced opinions, and light-hearted insults.
It was also more interesting at times than the actual gameplay. And it's a big reason why so many of us like the Lair. That ability to have mature conversations (or even the occassional out of nowhere wacked out humor discussions) is a good thing.
In closing, which would you prefer: a) a lively server with friends, b) heavy-handed admins who shut everything down except hardcore focus on gameplay, or c) a near-total lack of any conversation, text, verbal or otherwise? I've seen all three, and I know which I like.

A server without admins is better than a server with heavy handed admins. If you do not believe me try it. Cain has managed to strike a balance between the two.

I was there when the political debate was goin on, and I said something like " This really isn't the time nor the place for that..." and it ceased after that.. not that it bothered me but I saw some complaints that could possibly have made tempers flare.

I have to agree with apache here. Asshats are bad enough, but when asshats are given admin powers the situation can become dire fast. Admin asshatting, unlike generalized idiots, is just impossible to just tune out. You can ignore "you suck!" all day, but "agree with everything I say!" is a little more tricky.Originally posted by Apache WarriorA server without admins is better than a server with heavy handed admins. Thankfully this place is relaxed enough and from what I have seen the admins seem to only get involved when its necessary, not when they feel like it or when someone says something they don't particularly like.
