Dropping weapons

I have been meaning to research a bit and find out if there is a way to do this, but I keep forgetting. Maybe someone here can answer this.

Is there a way to start the round and drop your primary weapon without having to do the swap...or picking up another one? I was wondering if you could do this.

Less ammo is not an option - the only way to relieve yourself of the extra ammunition is to point your weapon at the sky and scream:
