I am not able to connect to Cain lair's BC2 server since last couple of days. Ping on the game portal is 999. All other servers are working just fine. Any suggestions?

Not sure if this how you want ot look at it but it looked like my average was 50-60.

I have some issues but no where near as much as Loco.

This is a rumored fix i always start the game up this way maybe that is why i never have the problem? oh well give it a go



JUst open my computer, c: drive, program files, electronic arts folder, bad company and double click bfbc2updater.exe It should take a few seconds then load the game. Your server list should come up. works fine for me hope this helps.

Seem like you were suffering from typical ISP issues. They usually clear up quite quickly.

the trace routes youve been asking people to run haven't shown any issues, so are we all just making it up juneau?

No one has actually posted an image of a long running trace route yet so most information hasn't been that useful if you must know. I would be looking for packet loss or ping spikes at specific hops. It's quite hard to judge information like that when it's copy/pasted text.

Traceroute is just one tool for figuring out whats going on and it's a good first start when dealing with network routes. FYI alls that it does is produce packets that start incrementing whats called a TTL (time to live)field in the IP header. When ever a network interface passes a packet it decrements the TTL field. If a packet gets decremented to zero the host processing the packet sends an error back to your computer. Traceroute uses this to find each step in the route to your final destination.

This tool will tell you if you have a route from one network to another and whats the latency on each leg of the route. Thats it really. Keep in mind that these routes are not set in stone. They can and will changed based on dynamic routing protocols that your ISP uses with its backbone provider.

Another good thing to check for general network issues is DNS. Seems that when ever something fails in the lab network here at work DNS is at the root of the problem one way or another.

Care to discuss your reasons? I'm sure you won't be the only person playing BC2 and running Malwarebytes. You could discovered an improbable cause of connection issues.

Last week when I tried to update definitions software providers prompted me for 14 day free trial of Pro edition. I believe once I downloaded that edition I started having this problem. Last night I noticed this program running on startup so I killed it. This is why Cain's Lair server worked great last night. This morning I ran Malwarebytes on my machine. After that I started having connection problem with Cain's Lair server again. Once I disabled the program server ping came down to 94 from 999. Therefore I think it is Malwarebytes.
