When ever I shoot (long guns or handguns) I keep both eyes open. It gives you a wider FOV. The trick is to train your brain to use one eye over the other. In my case I'm always using the right eye. In yours your switching.

It is tough to learn to shoot like that, but it is the best way. In my case, I am left handed, but my dominant eye is my right one. it makes things difficult when staring down the sights.

Yeah I had a friend that was exactly like that. Almost impossible for him to do archery. I find that I can do scopes and long guns fine. Handguns are a bit tougher for me I'm working on it. If I get tired I have trouble retaining front sight focus.
