    What about this PSU?

Newegg.com - mushkin 550300 800W ATX12V EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

I like the modular part of it.... The other one I'm looking at is:

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

No modular cabling though, but I like the single 12v rail

I like the modular cabling so I would go for that. I don't know anything about that brand though.

Depends on what video card you settle on. I like buying more PSU than I need, simply because every PSU runs best at 50% rated capacity.
That means that if you buy a 600w unit and you are loading it down at full tilt at 300w, you are running right in its 'sweet spot'.

That is why we have 800-1000w power supplies available. You should NEVER see anything over a 575w draw from a rig (we're talking GTX SLI and 3+ hard drives here) but you are running in its 50% draw comfort zone.

So what you should plan for is buying something that safely covers whatever video card or extra drives you might hang off of it. Either is a good bet for your needs. The Corsair is cheaper, but doesn't offer quite as high a rating as the Mushkin.

PS - Mushkin was the shiznit back in the day, offering the best quality RAM that you could buy. They have been overshadowed by Crucial and OCZ, but still offer quality hardware.

Leave it to Apache to state the obvious !! This was just posted in the Hot Deals thread, so I should have done my civic duty and linked it before he did.

Regardless, this is a great deal on a quality PSU (I just wish the cables were just a wee bit longer on it).

yeah but its not modular is it? Thats the key

Mushkin makes good RAM, it seemed to get good reviews.

What about this one? Do you think 3 x 12v's @ 18A would be enough for future graphics cards?

Modular is the key ?? Why, pray tell ? If you are telling us you want looks over performance, I can accept that, but some won't.

I have three modulars myself, but they aren't always the best for a given build. They are great for the guy who likes to have a clean wiring job, but they also introduce a very small level of electrical resistance to the circuit. The more you plug and unplug them, the more you wear down the cleanliness of the original connection.

Can't fault the Corsair modular range. They do come in at quite a premium over the TX range though.
