    GTX260 216 Poor sales explained

Aiming to hinder ATI's Radeon 4870 penetration of the high end graphics market, Nvidia introduced an improved version of their GTX 260 graphics card; but it seems that this plan might not be working as well as Nvidia hoped for.

The new design, dubbed GTX 260-216, retains the $299.99 price point but boasts 216 stream processing units, compared to original GTX 260 which includes 192 units only.

Unfortunately for the company, most of Nvidia's production partners decided not to follow their plan and replace the old GTX 260 graphics cards with the new design. Companies such as Asustek Computer, Gainward, MicroStar International and Leadtek just have too many GTX 260 graphic cards in stock. They also believe that increasing the number of stream processors wouldn't result in a significant performance boost without increasing other fixed function execution units as well.
Nvidia are really starting to drop the ball now.

Maybe they should just drop the price of the 260 and move on to the next cards instead playing some kind of game with it.

YES!!!!!!! i mean look @ the difference between the 9600 and the 9800 (not much, seeing as the 9800 was just a 9600 with SLI enabled....)

I dont see the point in most of this.

I have a 9600 GT that runs every game I own just beautifully.
I didnt pay a dime, but if I had, it would be $129.00

Buying the top of the line card to only wait 2 years for something worthy to test its' limits on isnt really fun for me.

GIVE THIS MAN A BLUE RIBBON !!!!!!!

Stupid Nv ... I keep awaiting this price drop on these cards and it isn't HAPPENING !!! Know why ?? Nvidia would end up taking a loss on the cost they incurred to MAKE them. Remember, these things retailed at $399 back in the Spring, but there was no way in Hell you could find one for that price. After ATI/AMD rained on their parade, they dropped $170 in two weeks time.

I am not buying until they hit $200 without rebate. That's half price withing the calendar year that they were released. Nv must be absolutely sweating bullets knowing they can't clear these cards from the channel at all at this point.
