    Removing Bloatware an Optimizing

I'm trying to clean up my computer. I removed programs through the control panel but there are some that are still showing up. I know there is some there because of they show up in the welcome center as seen in the SS below.

One of the things the guys at BB said they would do is "Optimize" this thing for $30.00. They have a program on a thumb drive that does it. Would that get rid of all this crap? Is there more to optimizing then removing bloatware? I said no thanks but I could always bring it back if they have a special trick. Is this something I could do myself?

Yet another money maker for the company, selling off its 'special' services to clean the PC of any crapware.
I wish I could find any good info on this one, but searches turn up nothing either way on it.

I dunno .. I just weed through the Add/Remove and install what I know to be junk. I'll refrain from the obvious suggestion to not buy a pre-built, since I know you are discussing your Gateway lappy, which you CANNOT build yourself.

Where else would these thing be listed in Vista. None of these programs are in the ADD/Remove list.

I was thinking along those lines but the disk that came with it has the bloatware on it. I was thinking that I could use the OEM DVD I bought for my rig and use some sort of unlock code from Gateway but I'm not too sure that's possible.

It could be a custom welcome center message from Gateway. Perhaps they're not actually installed, but still show up on the welcome? What happens if you try to click on them there?

Optimising normally means a virus/spyware check then a defrag.

I wouldn't waste my money on the "Optimization." Like Juneau said, it is probably just bs.

When I right click them there isn't an option to delete.

Now that you've mentioned it... I found I have some Microsoft stuff

Why don't you just leave them? They don't slow you down, unless you plan to open the welcome center every time you log on to your computer.

I guess if they are just short cuts I don't mind. I just don't want any kind of advertisements popping up in the future like I had happen with an old Dell.
