    vista weirdness??

Ok, so I installed vista ultimate 64bit on my new 500 Gig hard drive. A rather... flawless installation. Quite unexpect, but satisfying nontheless. It even helped acquire drivers, although I mostly did that myself anyway. I did find drivers for everything I needed, although theres this one thing in device manager... just lurking. Installed steam and am installing Hl2 etc . Company of heroes is installed and updated, runs alright I suppose... by the time I get a Dx10 card Ill be able to max that out. Anyhow, I let it go into... sleep? mode and I was away for a couple of hours... come back. It doesnt wake up!!! I'm nearly sure that hibernation mode is the same way. Other forum posts in t3h intarwebs pointed to video drivers. I got the latest, so whats up?

Oh, and im going to format the old 250 GB, still gunna use it. I was gunna put XP right back on there where it belongs, but I am worried (again, from reading other forums) that vista's boot manager may be over written by XP's. Is this true, and will Vista spazz if it does? Or does having them on separate hard drives negate the situation? I reaallllly dont want to have to reinstall vista just for XP.

Actually I have never been able to get it to wake up. When I put it to sleep, I just then turn it off from the power button and then restart... Damn Vista!

so I upped the memory voltage to 1.9. This is actually default, while 1.8 /1.85 is "safe". Some people in the other forums suggested the voltages might not be right (leaving things to default). So i manually set the CPU voltage too.

Sleep and/or hibernation have been broken since XP. I've seen random weirdness with a variety of systems where it just won't come out and requires a hard reboot. I actually turned it off on my cousin's laptops before they went to college this year when I was loading things for them and told them just to turn them off if they'll be away from a power source for a while and not using them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I don't trust it on either OS.

Thats funny, sleep used to do that to me on XP, but ever since I got vista it works fine. GASP!

I have Vista 64 Home Premium and I gave up on sleep mode some time ago. At times it would seem to work, but upon waking, the network card would not work so I had no Internet access. It required a reboot to fix.

At other times, I'd attempt to put it in sleep mode and the screen would go blank for a brief second, and then pop right back into normal running mode.

And when I was successful in putting the thing to sleep, the fans would still run constantly, which kinda goes counter to the whole sleep concept.

After spending and hour or two trying to fix sleep mode, I just gave up. It ain't worth my time.

I am running Vista x64. S3 (sleep/suspend to RAM) worked great for me until I installed SP1. Now it is broke.
What exactly does it do when you resume? Does it wake up at all?
RE installing XP: You should have installed XP first, then installed Vista. Vista would recognize the XP install and create a boot menu. If you install XP now it will probably screw up the boot menu, although you might be able to fix it with the Vista install disc.

that was my greatest fear.... so it is true. what If I disconnected the Vista hard drive, it wont overwrite it then , maybe? Surely there is a way around it!

I think Maximum PC had an article on how to do it, I'll see if I can find it. Might be complicated though, you should have installed XP first as Vista would have created the boot loader for you. If you disconnect the Vista drive then you won't be able to get back in to Vista without disconnecting the XP drive as the boot loader won't be there to give you a choice.

Can't seem to find any articles on it, maybe it was in one of the questions sections. I'll look back through my old issues when I get home tonight.
