hehe. I tried a little OCing and it didn't go so well, I bumped up to 700mhz core, and the shader was locked with that, and the mem I bumped up to about 1000 (defaults 660/1650/950)

3dMark 06 bumped back into windows during the nature test and the colors on the desktop were funky monkey, not to mention the resolution was like 640x480 lol! I'm sorta suprised....maybe I need to increase the FAN speed, I think it was only set to 29%...... meh, I'll just keep it the way it is

One thing to keep in mind with the GT cards .. they run HOT !!! Its not unusual to see a core temp over 80c after gaming, so the coolers are woefully inadequate for the task at hand. Either set up a fan profile using Rivatuner or invest in a better cooler (I'm buying eVGA's Akimbo cooler for $40) or just scrap the OC plan and enjoy the card at stock speeds.

I overclock every CPU I have, but I don't ever play with the card clocks unless I invest in alternative cooling. I bought the 8800GTS AC3 setup, which is a better setup than the stock GTS heatsink/fan setup and I have not bothered with it at all.

Any PC component, especially the HD and the video card, will have its lifespan shortened by heat buildup, so I make it a point to keep it as cool as I can inside my case, within reason of course. At some point, 6 120mm fans is a ridiculous cacophony of noise.

What test do you run to get the 3DMark? I don't understand. Is this a benchmark test?

The PC I just built for a friend has 1200 mhz core video. I don't know if this is the same thing.

Well the fan might be the problem, I do have a better cooler on there....it's their own HSF, here's the GPU:
                http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=msi%2b8800gt

The thing is, when I OCed it, I DID NOT change the fan speed, so it was really low. what's really funny is that at stock speeds this thing runs cooler than my CPU under load!!! My last card ran waay above my CPU....

The one stock runs about 48-49C under load for a few hours.....once it stabilizes...that's really good IMHO

Do you think the reason the OC didn't work was because I need to increase the fan speed???

Yep, FSX, I'm constantly tweaking that beast.... flight school, eh, neat? I'm a private pilot and air traffic controller (in training hehe) I love flight sims!

If the fan speed is anything like the G80 8800 series then yes you will have to set it higher. For some unknown reason the G80 cards default and stay at 60%.
