Should I spring for a 8400, or just wait a little longer ???

Initially I don't think the price difference is worth it.

This guy has an 8400 oc'd to 4ghz and getting nearly 19,000 on 3D Mark 06 on air cooling with sli'd 8800gt:

Unless you really want the 9.5 over the 9 multiplier, the price per performance of the 8400 looks hard to beat.
Old school or the new, doesn't mean a thing if your heart's not true...

Thx Devil, that is what I'm starting to think.

That and I wonder when the 8500 will actually be shipping.

Thats why I went with the 8400. A very little OC on the 8400 and you have a E8500 performance. Basically you have to up your buss speed to 350 instead of 333. Every overclock I've seen so far has been above a 400 buss speed with the E8400.

            Here is a couple more OC'ed E8400's. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=544212

Little update from OcUk. These guys are in cahoots with pretty much every hardware manufacturer out there so they get priority above others in Europe (sometimes the US) and get fresh info updates every hour.

              Jan 22nd

The e8200 model is available right now, with very good quantity of the e8400s to hit us tomorrow and fighting for e8500's which are proving to be *very* scarce indeed.
Looks like the e8500 isn't going to be in stock for a while yet.

bang for buck=8400. the 1/2 step isn't worth the extra $100 IMO for the E8500 on the multiplier.

                and, the 8400 is available

Still probably this first in Europe though.
