It wont unlock. I tried a few different things with no luck. I couldn't even get it to unlock the faster run speeds. I will have to look into it more when I get back from vacation, because they (MSI) say you're supposed to at least be able to unlock the speed so you can really overclock the hell out of them.

My biggest concern was being able to get the two cards to run at the same speed. My Sapphire card came with 880/1375 speeds, the MSI card comes with 850/1300. I was unable to get the MSI card to the same speeds due to the locked mhz's... But I did get it to 880/1325. Close, but not as close as I would like. Basically, this means that my Sapphire card is running 50mhz slower on the ram side due to the MSI's restrictions. Bugger that.

And I couldn't get the 6970's shaders to unlock on the MSI card, though they did on the Sapphire. I essentially have a 6970 and a 6950 crossfired - and I got the first "6970" for $100 less than any other. :P

if warranty is a concern, dont buy saphire. they have one warranty center IN HONG KONG. you guessed it, you have to get your card to HK to get any warranty service.

Ive been quite happy with XFX.
