    Any advantages to doing QOS for my games??

    Prioritizing either the application, or my machine (device)??

    Any advantages or disadvantages for gaming ??

      I turned it on for my game and I'm not sure it makes a difference. I should give my PC priority over Minis to compensate for his younger reflexes. What is that saying, "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill".

          <rant>
          For god sake it is not QoS. People need to stop calling it QoS. QoS is a few extra bits put into the header of packets that tell routers how to prioritize this traffic. A device can ignore QoS, Act on QoS or re prioritize and rewrite the QoS bits

          What your router has is an ability to look at packets and then prioritize them for itself only. It cannot tell other routers how to prioritize packets. Even if it did have actual QoS your service provider is going to ignore it. Call it whatever but, not QoS

          QOS is a defined protocol it has it's own RFCs
          </rant>

          When you enable whatever it is your router has it will look at it's incoming packet stream and I'm assuming it will give precedence to certain type of traffic and then send it out. This is only useful if say you have other people on the net doing something that causes network load. Like say a large FTP transfer or pretty much anything other than http traffic. Since your like me and you prolly beat anyone senseless who causes lag on the net while your in game (actually I just turn off my wife's port on the switch) its never been an issue. Now if you have lots of people on the LAN doing heavy traffic sure it could be useful

            That makes perfect sense !!

            Thank you...

            (I was using the Linksys term QOS, but I knew folks would know what I meant)..
