    Getting a laptop...

All right with me finishing my high school year and getting acceptance letters in the mail for college; I've begun looking at laptops and what to get what not to get yada yada yada. Im looking not neccesarily for a gaming laptop but a stable one that will last a few years and is able to handle games for the next year or so(maybe with nerfed settings). Lastly with great movie watching capability. Price range is below 1500$ (will cheat up to 1600 if its something that truely matters.

    Couple Questions

    1. Anything to avoid? (brands, spacific specs ect.)

    2. Must have's?

    3. Sweet deals?

    4. Other info?

    What im looking at....

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115869

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834214160

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152211

and the if i can somehow get my parents to buy category....

As always any and all help will be appreciated.

As long as it's not Dell. I used to really like Dells but, they went screwed around with the charging system trying to make it propriety. What they ended up with is are tons of laptops that won't charge....

I have three Toshiba's in my house all purchased within the last 2 years and I think they are great. They have awesome sound too.

Do lots of research and dont rush into it.

good place to get cpu/gpu bench and comparisons, I would also avoid custom builds for the most part since they usually cost a premium, they like to charge more for upgrading parts then you could buy them yourself.

If movie watching is key, you should make sure a blu ray player is part of the package, especially if you can get a hold of one of those pico projectors or something like that to take full advantage. Heck, you can use classrooms in many colleges. One of the best times we had back in the day was taking my N64 to one of the brand new Business school classrooms and projecting Goldeneye on it. The characters were nearly life-sized. Awesome.

I have had great luck with my Gateway laptop, it was $1300.00 bucks at BB and I have been gaming or 2.5 years so it was worth it, it's still a fast but BC2 will be the last game I can play on it.

I also had an excellent experience with my Dell XPS sytem, the XPS system used to come with US based support that was top notch but that was 2.5 years ago.

Many of my pilot friends get Lenevo notemooks and they are very hapy with them, if I were not gaming then I would give them a peek.

My wife has a Toshiba that has been trouble free for several years also.

I would definitely drop the coin on the extended warranty so it covers the full time you would want to use it, you can't do too much to theses by yourself. Throw in accidental damage also.

If you can wait a bit wait until the the Sandy Bridge laptops come out, there should be some great performing laptops for a great price.

Here is an article that just popped up in my RSS reader. This thing has some serious horsepower and the pricing starts at $1600. This modle may nt be good for but it is a sign of what will be out there in the mainstream before you start college.

Absolutely refuse to buy a dell as i hate their customer service same with sony

these are nice but have no possibility of gaming the ibm touchpads are rated as one of the most reliable though

So my big question now is this: if you're going to have a desktop with you, why do you need a laptop?

Just take notes like a man, with pen and paper.
