wife's old laptop had vista, was built for vista and then some, and I still hated it... too many small things about it that annoyed me. Like it asking me 5 times if I was sure I wanted to open a .exe... every time I started it up...

For those of you who remember the heyday of PC gaming mags, when they'd weigh in at 500+ pages (but of course 200 of them were ads), you did get some quality reading from them. In order of my favorites:

1) boot! (now known as Maximum PC, which was itself OK a few years back)

When ever someone mentions Boot I get a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart. You see contributing editors Sean Cleavland, Sean Downey and CD editor Ken Durrence were all roommates of mine about 12 years ago. We lived in big party house and depending on our state of inebriation could find us hacking on systems or slicing lemons on the front lawn with a katana. To put this into perspective in 1996 I traded Sean Cleavland a 386 20MHz system for NIN tickets at the Warfield in San Francisco.
