    LEGAL definition of Spamming

I was wondering, what is the LEGAL Def. of spamming. It usually involves MASS production of emails and message boards on numerous levels, right?

However, If I send an affiliate link to a friend via email here and there telling them about the product and perhaps how it could help them in their business, that's not really spamming?

Did your friend ask you to stop spamming?

        No,

I'm reading the terms of service for an affiliate program I signed up for, it does say, however, NON-Spam emails are okay.

I bet it depends upon the companies definition.

Look up the laws in the state you live in. It's typically sending mass emails out anonymously, but if your emails aren't solicited and you're asked to stop, I'd do so. And don't forget that companies can block your emails if they see large numbers coming through, and from a technical support standpoint, if you get your IP/email blocked by many corporates/companies it's darn hard to get it unblocked again.
