    Adding network connection

    Thanks to Duke I got my old XP PC all going again... but I can't seem to get onto the internet.

    I plugged the cat5 cable into our router which connects to our cable modem...

    When I click on network connections, I don't even see a LAN or network connection available - expcet IEEE1394

    Help?

    Networking was never my thing lol!

    Go to ONE of the following and tell me what you see :
    Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections {Category View}
    OR
    Start > Control Panel > Network Connections {Classic view}

    You should see at least one Local Area Connection

    If you don't, perform the following and tell me what you see:

    1. Start > Run, enter devmgmt.msc and click on the [OK] button.
    2. Expand Network Adapters and tell us what shows up here. To include any yellow or red icons.

      yeah.... I have a bunch of exclamation yellow points ick!

      USB, ethernet, vga, usb controllers are all YELLOW under "other devices"

      I was under the impression WinXP installed these essential drivers during the install proces???

          Excellent

          The nforce drivers aren't slip streamed in the default XP install. I have the nforce chipset also.
