The "Back Button" the new "Refresh" button??

when you press the back button on the browser on some webpages, why does it not go BACK, and just "Refresh" the same stupid page??

Some pages redirect you to other pages, so when you hit the back button, you immediately get redirected back to the site you were on. In that case, you have to use the back history to skip that page.

Pretty frustrating isn't it. Programmers who intentionally frustrate the will of users are like mob thugs, capable but unwelcome. I try to remember those web sites & never return.

So, here's some advice for you:
"...the Back function can always be achieved by right clicking on the page and choosing to go back. Furthermore, the user can always get out of the system by leaving the domain altogether or ... choosing a page two or three back in the browser's history."

Yeah, typically my routine is doing a Google Search, and clicking on whatever sites come up, and somehow I get stuck on that site and can never go back to the Google Search list. lol

Honestly, I think it's doing it on ALL sites...but double clicking quickly on the BACK button gets you back to where you need to be, but it shouldn't do that.

            This is in Internet explorer

One yesterday, I think it was the BET one, in fact, wouldn't even let me out after I went to the "recent pages" tab (history) and tried to click on the google search I found the page with: it just kept going to the BET site. I was like, OH NO, I'm here forever! I closed Internet explorer in a panic.

It's a parameter in the html telling the client not to cache, typically.

the back button jamming like that in ie is a result of iframes.
see those adverts that load on their own on pages, and other stuff like, shout boxes, chats.
Its a page on a page basically.

thats the reason your IE gets stuck,
Due to how Microsoft decided to code the darn twebbrowser control,
it counts that lil on the page, page, as a navigation in the back button,
even programs that include it as part of their ui's have the same issue.

Firefox i've noticed is less touchie about iframes, but can still fall into that loop.

                  There is your reason.

                    and, and, one more thing!

In the newer browsers, if you hold the ctrl button when you click the link, you'll open the link a new tab. I usually open several likely search links, and then look at each without needed to reload my original search page.

I do that from here in the new posts section . Ctrl opens in new tab, shift in new window. I use shift, still haven't gotten use to tabbed browsing just yet (old school ).

Hold CTRL?! No, press the middle mouse button instead. No need to move your pinky out... wherever your pinky finger is residing at the time.

Indeed! When you click a link with it, a new tab opens. If you click a tab with it, the tab closes!

and in win7 it closes windows from the start bar,
it will also open new copies of programs, and a lot more!

                              That poor buttons under used.
