    Firefox: download finished = freeze

Not sure how else to write the title hehe...

Anyway when a download is nearing completion my FF browser freezes up for sometimes 30 seconds (sometimes it says scanning for viruses other times it doesn't).

This happens even with a very small file...

as an update this also happens at the start of a download... ARGH

    What might be the issue??

Mine doesn't freeze, but it does take 4-5 seconds to close up after getting to 100%. I think it's a Firefox issue.

Try uninstall/reinstall to make sure there's no junk lurking around? Also, if you have addons, disable all of them and see if it occurs, not all addons are optimized to run nicely, you may have one that interferes. If it goes away, start turning them back on until it returns, then you know what addon is doing it and you can either remove it or further troubleshoot. Do you get the same issue in IE or Chrome? Maybe it's Windows copying files as the download finishes and not Firefox.

What Trooper said... Or you could switch to Google Chrome.

Same delay seems to happen with IE8.

I tried Chrome and it feels faster and haven't noticed a delay when downloads finish. But I still prefer FF.

Ugh.. FF used to be the "fast" browser

Chrome renders and runs faster in my experience. I've switched over since they included the ability to have add ons in Chrome. It takes a little while to get used to some stuff, but I like the feel much better now that I am used to it.

You might want to clear all the hidden temp files by going to Start -> Run -> Type in "%temp%" without the quotes, and click Ok. Then delete everything you possibly can in the folder :P

Might want to defrag if you're using XP, as well as doing a system cleanup to compress and remove unneeded files.

Delete cookies, caches, forms, passwords using the standard method in both IE and FF.

do you have an av installed? if it happens to both ie and ff i would think it is the av causing the delay scanning when the file is moved out of temp

yes but I disabled that in FF. Still delays at the end of the download

The delay is caused due to bit defender etc. checking the file for mailware.

                  Not a FF fault.

I disabled the virus checking via the FF config page though...
