And then you toss in the new Citation Mustang with fairly accurate G1000, and then a light twin, the RA Duke, and you're set

    RealAir :: Introduction

Oh, and the L39 albatros if you like military jets

Features: Front Rear Cockpits - Lotus Simulations L-39C Albatros

Those 3 are the most high-fidelity addons I've yet to see for a flight sim...

And they'd all run perfect on your new system

Here are some pictures of the build and my new gaming area which consists of an older cheesy desk. Last week this area was packed with clutter which has now been sorted or tossed. I will get to cleaning up the wiring over the next few days I had some leftover materials from the Pink Monster I built a while back. The red is OK but conflicts with the blue LEDs so I'm not sure what I will end up doing. It will need to wait until I get a 12V 8pin extension so I can route that cable behind the MB.

      The stuff.

The newer EVGA MBs have improved in quality. This padded and labled IO plate is just an example.

The SpinQ and the three exhaust fans.

The GTX 275. I was able to play a bit of Crysis at 2048 x 1152 with high setting at aroun 30 FPS. I have no complaints so far. I can only imagine what a 5870 would be like...

Althoug it's no Lian Li the case is well built and there is plenty of room. There is plenty of cooling with a reasonable noise level.

      The new area.

I love having things like Ventrilo and the monitoring software on that old CRT while getting my game on.

I have started using dual monitors at work, and I must say that it is awesome. For me it really increased productivity. It is probably great for your home system as well, although for different reasons.

Nice build Duke. And I am glad you were running great last night. Now you just have to keep your wife away from it.

I think the key will be to keep up the maintenance on hers. I may even upgrade to 64 Vista then to 64 Win 7. She hates a slow PC just like the rest of us.

I had originally thought of two raptors in RAID 0 with a RAID 5 for storage. Two 150 Raptors would have cost $320 as compared the %229 for the single 300GB. The first upgrade will be the three storage drives then maybe down the road a second Raptor.

Why not go straight to Win 7 from XP? I did and it was an easy set up and runs great. I am loving Win 7.

My understanding is that in order to go from 32 to 64 you have to upgrade Vista to 64 first. I remember hearing that upgrading to 64 is about $10.00 so that plus the upgrade version cost would be cheaper then the retail version of Win 7.

You can not upgrade. You have to do a clean install to go from Vista 32 to Win 7 64. Just back everything up and go.
I did find that, even with a clean install, Win 7 made a copy of everything and put it under windows.old. After the install I moved it to an external backup.

No. The upgrade has the 32 bit and 64 bit discs.

I chose not to upgrade to 64-bit at this time, because I didn't want to hose my current drive and reinstall everything, and I didn't have the funds on hand at the moment for a new drive to start clean. I'll probably just wait until I get a new system (next year?).

The irony in this decision is that my backup RAID 1 array just failed on me this weekend. It's in "Degraded" status, and I can't get Nvidia Control Panel to install the full version to check which of the two drives is borked. I need to play around with it a bit more, but I may have to buy another drive anyway to repair the RAID array if one of the drives outright failed.
