Optical Drive Sata Dvd replacement qustion

Hi guys,

I have a stupid question I need to replace my Optical Drive Sata Dvd writter on my rig can I just replace it & will it work straight off without having to install windows again, Reason I'm asking this is the first time I have had to replace my sata writer.
