    It's so beautiful...

My XFX GTS 250 arrived today, and it is amazing. Compared to my 8600gt it is unbelievable. It also runs at pretty low temperatures, after a few hours of oblivion it was around 40 degrees celcius.

XFX still produces the most ostentatious box art:

A comparison of my other cards to the GTS 250 (yes, that is a 6600LE on the left):

        The case:

        Installed:

        Now, on to the benchmarks:
Using the timedemo feature of CoD4, I took the average of three demos and got, with all settings maxed and at 1280x1024, an average of 122 frames per second (I went with 15 minute games on the maps Overgrown, Creek, and Chinatown).

In 3dMark06 my score went from 3031 with my 8600gt to 12201 with the GTS 250.

Burnout Paradise has an internal cap of 60 FPS and not once did it drop below that.

Here's where it gets weird, on CoD5, using Fraps to benchmark, I got an average of 172 frames per second, which is odd because it should be lower than CoD4.

I'll also try to get benchmarks with UT3.

It's always so cool to get a new card and think how much better your old games look. Have fun.

Enjoy the new purchase. The box isn't that bad! No women with beachballs for a start.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. My case already has a 240mm fan and three 120mm fans, and I can't hear the card over them.

Hehe, I'd guess fan noise is NOT a priority given that setup. Its never bothered me before, but then I see a nice water cooled setup and get that itch ...

until I remember that almost all WC setups use a radiator with fans in it, which defeats the purpose of going with WC in the first place.

Water-cooling always has been taunting me, but then my computer wouldn't sound like a motorcycle revving its engine before my fan speed settings kicked in .
