    AIDS cure a possibility!

    A Doctor, a Mutation and a Potential Cure for AIDS - WSJ.com

Only problem is that from the description I'm not sure how easy or often it would be to do, and I bet it's expensive as hell.

Double Barrelled problem - Leukemia patients and the people will AIDs will inevitably be in competition for bone marrow transplants. The hardest thing to do when you have leukemia is find a match for the transplant, and there are many cases when your entire family is disqualified from being your donor.

Now imagine that scarce resource becoming even more scarce as the donor list is overwhelmed with AIDs patients....

Good news, yet it is kind of bitter sweet.....

I think the major problem is being compatible donors with a natural immunity. Getting people to donate could be an issue as well...apparently it involves very large needles being stuck in your thigh every time, was talking about it with my brother's gf who is in school right now to be a physician's assistant.

Ya, donate donate donate . Let's not forget that the majority of disease is preventable. Other than having random sex with everyone, they should try passing out condoms and some sort of birth control for all the women giving birth to AIDS infected children.

As for the "cure" I doubt that it will be even considered.

Thats kind of what I said

Not only is it going to be hard to find a donor- but imagine being an AIDS patient and you FINALLY find a donor only to find that your match is already going to help someone with Leukemia.

You cant help both of them, it takes months to replace the marrow you donate, and most people dont have that luxury of time once the match is made.

It's truly bittersweet if this is the cure.

Trying to find the head of a needle in a haystack made up of needles....

Money, marrow and blood aren't the only things you can donate to research. Folding@home

Most of you have some nice hardware doing nothing most of the day anyway. I've been participating since 2001.
