High School student jumps to his death

HSC teen dead after fall at elite school - Local News - News - General - The Herald

Quote from a friend of the guys
As part of generation Y, I'm sort of numb towards death (just like the rest of you). What is really weighing on my mind and making me feel honestly terrible about this is the fact that I don't know why he did it.
Okay, well, I know why he did it, that wasn't what I meant. What I meant is that I don't know what he wanted us to get from it.
I can't stop thinking about whether this was him thinking "I have nothing left to live for", or if it was him trying to tell the rest of us how unfair the world is. In other words, was he just trying to get out of the situation, or was he trying to make a martyr of himself?

thats makin me think. Maybe he was trying to send a message?

    Dude-

If you are considering this aspect, then you are not immune to death by sheer fact of introspection.

I appreciate the maturity of his thinking, however, and no matter how a person dies, this is part of the grieving process.

I wish there were stronger parents out there to guide their children through tougher times. It's so hard to see children like this going this process solo.

Give this kid a hug dammit!

There are 2 paths a child can go, Vengeance or suicide, with a parent that has failed their child. In my opinion, problems at school happen due to problems at home.

Take the Columbine High School massacre for example. Those kids were making death threats, playing intense murder video games, and not receiving help. The parents didn't do anything.

We may look up to people like Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, or Bon Jovi, but parents fail to see that they are the biggest influence of their childs life.

So, why did the kid jump? Parents. What's the message? People pop out babies and don't care for them.

I myself am somewhat lucky. I don't have horrible parents, but I don't have good parents. Mine satisfied my needs. Gave me food, had their love for me, gave me a house and bought me stuff I wanted for Christmas and my birthday if I was a good little boy.

Problem was, it all came down to one thing for my parents, school. I hated school and still hate school. I can't stand learning new things I don't want to learn. Luckily now that I'm in college I'm taking classes I want (besides Math and reading... those are a waste of my time). But my life for my parents were school, making school harder for me. I wanted to distract my parents from school and focus on my life. My parents don't know half the friends I have, my favorite color, what I do when I'm at home, what career I want to go into, and what I enjoy doing in general.

I say this to prove parents are a big factor and I agree with what Hammy said. We may want to be as good as Michael Jordan, be able to act like Robert Downy JR, or be able to swim as fast as Michael Phelps and sing like David Draiman, but it's the parents that are the real role models.

The kid jumped, but the parents pushed him.
