I always loved the Bobby McFerring "Don't Worry Be Happy".
It was really original and catchy. I would think there are worse songs to hit #1.
Same with Batdance by Prince. I guess I just loved the video when it came out.... "whose that, Vicki Vale!" x100

Some people got no taste. I agree with Prince and Bad day but the rest are classics of their era. Kitch and trashy now but we will be saying the same in 10-20 years about the hits of today. I am just glad flares, platforms and leopard skin thongs never went out of style
