Found a black widow on my porch and another in my mailbox about a month ago. That was nice...never seen one in 35 years on this planet and then I find two in two days.

The first place I played paintball at was absolutely infested with banana spiders (not real banana spiders, but that's what everyone calls them, huge black and yellow striped monsters). I was creeping through some brush and a "stick" hung down across my goggles. Just as I went to brush it off the "stick" revealed itself to be a very large spider leg, as the rest of the 7" or 8" spider followed it down and came to rest squarely in the middle of my faceplate. I had my gun reversed and was about to fire before I realized that my goggles probably weren't rated to stop a paintball at pointblank range, and brushed him off of my face with the barrel instead.

It was always funny to have twenty guys moving stealthily through the woods in a skirmish line, only to hear a sudden burst of fire and see everyone dive for cover. When no return fire would come, you'd look up to see one guy standing in front of a holed spider web with a smoking gun and a sheepish look on his face.

Don't we consume on average like 10 spiders a year when we're sleeping?

You know, I knew that, but it's up there with "allowable amounts of fecal matter in food" on the list of "Things I Try Really Hard Not To Think About". Thanks SO much, Rand.

She is an RN and was bitten on the Hospital grounds. The Hospital had to pay all cost plus treatment started immediately. So no lasting effects.

                        are those things for real??

I don't consider myself with arachnophobia but i do treath with respects all spiders, i think what i most respect is the fact they are so agile and fast that if they want it they can bite me so easly.
My father was bite by a black widow long time ago and he was in coma for about a month
