    Strategic Moves by Epic Games

A couple of newsworthy items. Firstly, Epic Games has launched it's own "store", ala Steam (/Valve) and to which it is offering much better revenues to game developers than Steam or other platforms have. Many are saying it is about time that someone is taking on Valve. Easier said than done perhaps. But given the financial success of Fortnite, along with the Unreal Engine development system being free to develop games w/royalties later, Epic can afford to do this and for developers can be hard to resist.

Epic Games takes on Steam with its own fairer game store

And secondly, Epic is making free to developers the cross-platform tools it has created for Fortnite. This includes logins, profile & player settings, purchases, cross-platform voice comms as well as party & matchmaking. This is "battle" tested so to speak so the industry knows what this can provide. There will be a C language SDK available for all to use. The only "platform" not currently included is Linux desktops. Though it is not hard to imagine that Linux support will be forthcoming.

Epic will let other game developers use Fortnite’s cross-platform tools for free
