    Heath Ledger found dead.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Actor Heath Ledger is dead, the New York Police Department said Tuesday.

The Academy Award nominated actor was 28.

Ledger's housekeeper found him dead in his Manhattan apartment, New York police said.

He died at 3:26 p.m., they said.

The New York Fire Department received a call at 2:27 Tuesday responding to a "cardiac arrest call" in New York.

They found an unresponsive male dead at the scene.

In 2005, the actor played Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain," about two cowboys who had a secret relationship.

The role earned him the Oscar nomination.

Ledger was born in Perth, Australia.
    Woah.

I think the majority of the filming is done, but I could be wrong, what a waste of talent to see another young person with the albatross of drugs saddens me!

He was a good actor who was starting to get into a groove of good movies and interesting parts. Not just taking parts for the paycheque, but taking parts for fun and challenge. Gotta respect a man for that.

Very tragic. But it does seem to smell of drugs. They confirmed it was not a crime.
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.

+1 to both. Sad loss of a (to judge by the Joker footage to date) spectacular talent, and father to a 2 yr old. I didn't see Brokeback, but he was good enough in other roles too.

On the other note, it is also my understanding that principal photography for Dark Knight is done. No post photography has occurred, so if they need to do anything with the Joker's scenes, it'll have to be CG or a different actor, sort of like Brandon Lee during filming of The Crow.

This one is just sort of a shocker I think. Both because of his age and the fact that his image seemed clean cut enough. Just goes to show you can never tell.
