Selling a fridge on Craigs list.

    Hi everyone,

My wife and have to sell a brand new fridge that didn't fit into the house we built. I have been procrastinating this chore for over a year but we finally posted it up on Craigs list. So far we only have two replies. One reply was some perv who made lewd remarks about wanting to be "unwrapped". Then we got this other respons, here is the email. I think its a scam, why would this guy send a check without looking at the fridge. I thinking cash only.

    Good Morning,

Thanks for the prompt response and i will love to make an instant
purchase, so please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist, i dont
mind adding an extra $50 for you to take the advert down from
criagslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the items.
I will also like you to know that i will be paying via check, and it
will be over night payment due to the distance .You dont need to
bother your self with the shippment ok, i will take care of that, so i
will need you to provide me with the following information to

facilitate the mailing of the check.

    1.Your full name.
2.Your mailing address be it residential or postal address.
    3.Your phonenumber.
I assure you once again i will take care of shipping.

    Have a nice day.

    Regards,

Does anybody around here use Craigs list for something other then prostitution?

Here is a link to the add, any tips on how to better list this thing

I've used it for selling things, but you def have to watch out for scams. The response you got seems slightly similar to one listed at the bottom of this page:

It is probably a scam. The only thing you can do is inform him that you will hold the fridge until the check clears your bank. That can take up to 10 days. After the check has cleared and the money is in your account then allow him to have the fridge. You can call the bank that the check is drawn on. The only thing they can tell you is whether the account has the necessary funds available. This can still be a scam. There would be enough time for them to close then account, after they pick up the fridge, before the check would clear. Even if you cash the check the bank would debit your account if the check ended up bouncing.

        +1 to this.
Only take cash or wait until it clears a bank. Get his phone number and information before you give yours as well. Call him and discuss over the phone. If your creeped out then do the exchange in a parking lot and not at your house.

          Thanks,

I will be ignoring this email, no need to send anything out, if it is a real offer he can come and meet me to look at the fridge and bring cash.

Definitely a scam. You can tell by the fashion it is written. Sorry to say, but probably from Nigeria.

I once bought a motorcycle over craigslist with no problems though.

Just in case this dead horse isn't already adequately beaten...
It's sad they changed hardly any of the words since 2007.

Hehe.. Duke I have some nice property in west Texas I'll sell you on the cheap. I'll take care of the paperwork. Just give me your bank account number and I'll contact them and fix everything.

If Nigerians are anywhere but Nigeria, they are up to no good. Used to see em in Bangkok. Police kept a close eye on em.

If people wouldnt fall for things like this they would stop trying, but believe me, they do still fall for it.

Same thing happened to me when I was lookin at boats. I laughed for a while about it. He said he would take care of the shipping and that his brother was gonna handle the deal since he was conveniently out of town. I told him I was gonna report his ip to the FBI. Didnt hear anything after that.
