Stuff emits from the Lander... I am thinking its just one of the pieces that were part of the land fall. no biggy
Foam, etc... and pieces of the metal ejecta when they jetisoned the lander are scattered all overComment

I wonder what would happen if they found a bunch of huge gold nuggets? If there really was running water on mars at one time, it's concieveable that one could find gold.
