I'm a long time resident of California. a 5.8 barely gets our attention around here. I think earth quakes feel like you're surfing

You can run from a Hurricane. You want to try running from an Earthquake?

I was on the stage at school setting up a video presentation for tomorrow when it started. We all looked up at the ceiling, as the speakers, lights, acoustic tiles and curtains all started shaking.

It literally sounded like a tank was driving by on the second floor, and then we realized that at that location there IS NO second floor over the auditorium.

Sure it wasn't the 1906 San Fran quake, Apache? (always an opportunity for an Apache/Old joke)

It wasn't until this morning that I started wondering just why in the hell does anyone choose to live in California if they have to deal with 6+ magnitude all the time and the Big One is overdue? 130 miles or so from a 5.9 is bad enough.

Plus, it's just really expensive to live out there. Though not too much more than the DC and NYC Metros I suppose.
