ipads for pilots

Interesting read I saw from Fark today, I wonder how this complies with the FAA rule for turning off all electronic devices(esp if its a 3g ipad).

I hope they keep paper backups. What happens when it loses power because someone forgot to charge it, or it breaks during use? I kind of like the pilot having everything and anything needed if required.
