HBO Want Netflix to Charge $20 a Month

    Say what?

What Hollywood Execs Privately Say About Netflix - The Hollywood Reporter

?HBO believes in content exclusivity, especially for high-value content,? says Jeff Cusson, the channel?s senior vp corporate affairs. ?That?s our rationale for not selling streaming rights to a competing subscription service.? While HBO licenses shows to such pay-as-you-go streaming services as iTunes and Amazon, it has ?no intention of making its content available for streaming on Netflix,? he adds. A high-placed Time Warner executive says that if Netflix expects to get a meaningful amount of HBO content, it would have to raise the price of its streaming-only service from $7.99 a month to $20 before the economics made sense.

    Netflix begs to differ.

?They make incredibly great product that is very expensive to produce,? Sarandos says. ?But we?re buyers and they?re sellers, so we?ll figure out a deal that makes sense. If we don?t, then the service doesn?t have everything, and that?s OK too.?

I understand productions are expensive but ouch.

Sorry I quit using NetFlix due to it's adoption of Time Warners demands for waiting a month before making their new movies available.

I think there are a lot cross hairs on Netflix. It would be possible for me to drop my dish one account to the basic account and let my son watch the few shows he does with Netflix this is direct competition with them and I bet there are many other examples out there.

Ditto. Then I gave it another try for the streaming to Wii, that got boring after a couple of months, canceled again.

I'd pay $20 if they had more streaming movies. As it is now when I think of a movie to watch I'd say there's less than a 10% chance it'll be available for streaming.

Steaming Netflix through Wii is pointless because Wii can only output in 480. I love the Wii (insert joke here, bada bing), but if I'm steaming Netflix, it'll be over the PS3.

Not that I would pay for Netflix. Too much cash.
