    Sometimes Work Gets Strange

So...the FBI arrested the county executive of Prince George's County about 45 minutes ago, and his wife, who happens to be the incoming elected council person for District 6.

This is where I live and work. It's a very interesting exercise in human interaction observing reaction and speculation at both the County Administration Building (where the FBI is executing search warrants as I write this), and here in my building across the pond.

And I thought today would be annoying being a single work day between a holiday and the weekend.

Here is the affidavit. Most of the charges in this thing happened within about 1 hour this morning. It is HI-larious.

Yhea not too bright, if he knew enough to be suspicious about who was at the door he should have know that they could have been listening.

You would think he never saw tv or a movie, let alone used to be our District Attorney (for reals). Not only did the FBI have a tap on his phone since January, this thing says they took the opportunity to clone it again.

They had him doubled up, and he still says this on the line instead of at least finding a land line or pay phone. Not that it would matter since they had his house line too I'm sure.

I caught the press conference by the US Attorney last night. He says this is just the tip of the iceberg for the investigation. We're just sort of waiting to see how many dominoes fall. The FBI agent in charge was pretty amusing--he seemed to take this personally and was practically shouting into the mics that corruption in the county must come to an end, then he said something like "It will really, really be better on you to come talk to us now than wait until we show up at your door." Awesome.

They popped 9 people today, including 3 cops, for charges related to a network that dealt in untaxed cigarettes and liquor. It's like 1920 all up in here. One of the cops got hit for cocaine trafficking and threatening with a deadly weapon. The Feds are looking to seize something like 13 million and 84 properties in assets related to this.

The best part? The US Attorney for Maryland claims this is related to the County Executive, but there is no clear connection of any sort.

This is beginning to look like the Feds have had a MASSIVE and broad anti-corruption probe underway here. When all is said and done this could bring down dozens of people in the government and county agencies. Wow.
