    Different Drug Problem...

A friend just e-mailed this to me, thought it was cute.

I never relized I had a 'drug' problem as a child. It all makes sense to me now.

      Nice. And true.

Reminds me: I was talking the other day with a new driver (close to my age, but new at work). He grew up in Chicago...inner city...African American. We were talking about the kids today...how wild many of them seem to be and what things will be like in the future when they grow up...as graduation rates drop, teen pregnancy rises, etc.

He said when he was younger, if he got in trouble, he paid twice. If his mom caught him, she whupped him first and then his dad did when he got home. He said he noticed a change in the younger generation when a phone number was posted that kids could call if their parents abused/touched them. He told his mom about the number, and she gave him the phone and said "you go ahead and call that number: how long do you think it will take them to get to our house?" He thought about it, and never thought about that number again.

At any rate, he tries to give talks at churches and outreach programs for African American youths. He says the kids think he's lying when he says he's never gone to prison: they don't know any adult males that aren't felons. He tells them that you don't go to prison if you know the difference between right and wrong. He thanks his parents for teaching him those things.
