iPhone app to track sex offenders

iPhone app tracks sex offenders - Telegraph

Can't decide if it's good or bad that they make it that easy to track sex offenders for the public. Any comments or opinions on that?

You do the crime, you do the time and take anything that comes with it. A pervert is for life, not just the length of their sentence

Some sex offender crimes are ridiculous. For example, get caught relieving yourself on the side of the road and you will have a sex crime on your record.

Exactly what I'd be afraid of. There's sex crimes (rape, child molestation, etc.) that I personally think should be solved with a nice 9mm hollow point. Then there's stuff like the high school girls who sent naked pictures of themselves to boyfriends or interests and they wanted to charge with like 3 separate sex crimes, or the urinating in public like Apache mentioned that is, imo, stupid as hell to classify that way.

My fear is that the app makes it too easy for Joe and his buddies to get toasted Saturday night, then go out looking for some fun with the new app they downloaded. On the other hand, it could help out a couple planning on having kids and looking around for a new house to buy. Of course, said couple could also get the same information on the Internet on various Megan's Law websites.

This is my only worry also. I don't mind being able to track a real sex offender this easily.

I DO have serious heart burn with the way this country and the individual states get carried away and prosecute some of the simpliest BS under the name of something they have no business using. Just like Apache said.

Bottom line on my opinion, I have no problem with it. I do have a problem with the way WE allow law enforcement to get carried away. Yes it is a WE! It's up to us to ensure the correct laws are in place to enforce, not them. The public and the legal system keeps forgetting, laws are set by and for the public and the public is ASSISTED by federal and state authorities on the enforcement of the laws.

Well if they locked up child molesters and rapists for life , after water boarding them of course, then we wouldn't have to track them and people taking a leak on the side of the road wouldn't have to worry about being put in the same category. Tracking anybody in this way is a dangerous thing.

I just had to download the free app to see what it was. It's basically what you could find online. Name, age, physical description, range, and sometimes a picture. I don't think it's a bad idea, but I think a smart person would look into something like that before even moving into a neighborhood.
