    Circuit City is Done

    We knew it was coming:

Circuit City seeking to liquidate - Jan. 16, 2009

Oh man! Their website ceases to operate on Sunday. That's truly stupid. At least when Linens and Things went, their website also helped liquidate. Stores to close by March 31 pending store approval.

If there are any tech goodies you guys want, it'll be worth making weekly visits to your local store. After a few weeks, their prices should begin to match the Amazons of the world, and a couple after that they'll actually get pretty good. If anything is left.

Shame to see them go though. The competition between them and Best Buy keeps BB honest.

    -Rand

P.S. I've been entering sweepstakes lately on their site. They need to give me the gift card now so I can use it (if they still honor it), or maybe better yet, the TV for the contest that doesn't end until Feb 2.

I know of two large software purchases that they did that was supposed to enable them, however their supply chain practice was so messy, they never could deliver the solutions.

Such a sad story really. Online retailers like NewEgg should make out like bandits now, that inventory will need to go somewhere.

Standby - in 1 year we will have a new Electronics retailer to compete with Best Buy. Just my informed opinion.

Sucks, I'll have to ask my brother if there was any kind of buyout or pending that he knows about, but looks bad. Now, I might be getting some *very* good deals from them since I at least know all the managers if I'm not friends with them, seeing as I used to work there and my brother is the current warehouse manager......

You guys in Cali already have it. It's called "Fry's." If they're smart, they can build up to be a national chain and fill the hole left by CC.

and IMO, frys kicks the crap out of CC, but their prices are sometimes a bit higher on ram and hard drives...

There are several Fry's here in Texas. I know of 2 here in North Dallas, and at least 1 in Houston.

I went to the Frys in Dallas while I was in training a few years back... It was pure heaven.

Micro Centers are also cool but I doubt that either of those stores will be coming to VT in the next 100 years or so.

Someone in management got torqued by the feds for embezzlement via a gambling issue. They fired him.

People interested in knowing Fry's http://www.frys.com/
Funny thing is that there are unadvertised "in-store" prices that you get if you talk to a sales associate.
                        There are "advertised" prices
                        There are "online" prices

Honestly, Best Buy would eat these guys lunch. The only thing they have over Best Buy is that they are the "big Box " store of electronics in California. Imagine the Costco version of Electronics. You arent getting a deal, unless you are buying bulk or you "hunt down" the deals. There are people that visit the store everyday hunting for the deal, talking to reps until they walk in one day and ask about TVs.

The real deals are open box or discontinued items.
There are no warranties unless you buy one, and they even tell you that they dont do returns- you go to the manufacturer for that.

It's convenient but a pain in the rear half the time. I go there when I am positive I cant get it all done in one ride. Otherwise I use local stores such as Central Computer (also found online and VERY accomodating) Central Computer Systems Inc. - CentralComputers.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, LaptopComputers, Servers, Repair, and more!

And remember....don't go to CC for low prices for at least 3 weeks. The way the liquidators work...they put everything back up to manufacturer recommended prices, then dropped it 10%. So chances are the same product was cheaper a week ago on sale, or is currently cheaper at Best Buy, etc.

My brother said people keep coming in talking about the deals they got, when he was pulling all the old tags yesterday and updating them, he said a lot of things, TVs especially, are way over what he changed them from....$300 in the case of some TVs.

I hope fry's dies... Here in Phoenix they have crappy computer parts selections, no real cases, no real good RAM sticks (And the crappy ones that they do have are overpriced), Nothing good in the computer department.

Fry's is a mixed bag. Yes they're touted as a discount electronics and sometimes they are. I find I only go there if I need somethng like right now. Otherwise I shop online as I'm lazy. There is also another reason I go to Fry's and it's to get db9F to RJ45F jacks for serial concentrators.... Not alot of folks stock that
