    1) You claimed to have too little understanding of the controversy.

    and then

    2) You took the exact position ("I don't think you can really refine things like this too much.") that lead us into this controversy.

    The young are so innocent.

It was taken from my knowledge of our own healthcare system. Permanently a 'work in progress'.

Phantom, the way this new system works is Obama needs young/healthy people to put money in and not take money out, so they can afford to pay for people that can't afford to pay for anything. Also, how else do you think they can cover people with pre-existing conditions?

Still confused. If YOU go to a hospital, for your range of illnesses, will you pay anything? Will you pay a portion? Do you need insurance?

Nope you pay nothing before or after treatment. You and/or the rest of the working UK population has already paid for your treatment via taxes. The only thing you would pay for is prescription charges, again, only if you're in full time employment.

You can buy insurance and go the Private Healthcare route if you so wish.

How are u comparing that to our new healthcare? This one just forces you to get insurance instead of directly paying doctors and hospitals on your behalf. And if you have free care, why do you guys still have terrible dental health? I'd go to the dentist every 3 months and get them cleaned if it were free.

What do you think insurance does when you need a doctor or hospital?

I know that, but I pay for having insurance and I pay taxes. They only have to pay taxes which covers universal insurance for everyone.

I actually thought this Obamacare was a form of tax funded healthcare.

Dental isn't free. But it's cheaper than private. Most people in this country visit the dentist once every 6-12 months. But there's a difference with us. We actually care more about the health of our teeth rather than the appearance (lower vanity I presume, but this is changing. a lot of kids buy whitening kits). A few slightly out of line teeth and we're OK with that.

In fact, the last time I heard, the UK was near the top of the 'healthiest teeth in the world' category, and far, far above the US. Japan should really take this stereotype from us tbh.

Yes, some people here have horrendous teeth. I imagine it's like that in most countries.

edit: Was wrong with the "near the top" statement. We are/were in fact the very top.

This example is a little old, but I can't seem to find the article that pointed out the very same thing last year.

The only reason you're up top is because of government programs to end the stereotype lol.

And you're right. It's in no way a tax funded form of healthcare.

                            Haha!

Do you think an NHS style healthcare system would work in the US? It is 100% socialist, and I know that is scary to a lot of US folks. Has Socialism cropped up during the debates of Obamacare?

That's why they're scared. If hospitals become publicly funded they won't be able to charge so much for doing so little. Granted, a doctor goes through at least 8 years of education and goes into massive college debt, but still doesn't grant them the right to be paid 50 times the minimum wage. However, this is capitalism. And once you try to socialize healthcare, you will have to socialize everything. The US is not about equalizing everyone.

This is a lecture. Feel free to skip it. I don't mind.

The core problem problem with socialism (often known as Marxism) is that it's an intellectual theory that ignores real human drivers. Normal people aren't motivated in the way that socialism requires. That's why pure Marxist societies degrade into a type of party-ruled dictatorship.

Capitalism thrives because it rewards the natural, selfish incentives built into humanity. This motivation is extremely powerful, and it's a primary cause of USA's historic success. So, people who hate capitalism also despise USA's history.

It's easy to say, "Rich folks should give me their money. It's more fair." However, when the incentives of capitalism are removed, it's not capitalism. Without rewards for economic ambition, the economic engine slows. "Equal" for all eventually means "less" for all.
