I shall be getting this tonight, but i've been doing a lot of reading and it doesn't look good so far.
on incrysis someone with this spec;
Intel Core 2 Extreme @ 3.4, 4GB RAM, nvidia 8800 GTX 764MB, Vista 64-bit at a resolution 1280x1024 in dx10, was getting 41fps max in MEDIUM.
Huge FLOP. FPS is like 5 with 8800GTS, 2.56ghz 6300 and 4096mb memory at 1680x1050.

If it doesn't play at all in Vista that's more than likely due to driver problems.

no offense, the link was for ppl who did not have ea dl manager.
This demo will not work with VIsta 64. If you get it to work on Vita 64, I can give you a virtual cookie.
For XP and Vista 32 folks , make sure you disable NOD32 and Diskkeeper Service
For you ati folks having ati x1900, good luck. Need new drivers for it to work

So far I'm more impressed than I thought I would be. I still have to play it on Delta to see if the AI gets smarter (or if they still stand around getting shot), but the gunplay is solid and the openness to approaching each encounter is very Stalker-like. And games being Stalker-like is a good thing :D (without all the bugs and infinite enemy spawns of course  ).
I've got to tweak the graphics settings more, but it runs pretty well on my system. 1440X900 and 50-60 fps on a mix of medium-high.

I plan on revamping my cooling setup a bit in the near future to squeeze a bit more performance out of my rig (especially the 8800).
This game has gone from a "meh" to a "wait and see". And that irks me to no end, because I'm fighting my desire to never give EA money....so hard when they own like 1/4 of the industry now

It didnt play so hot on my machine...
I have a e6600, 2gig ram, and 8800gtx, and when I did the detect settings it said I should put everything on very high. But even the beginning movie wasn't that smooth, and when I started playing it was very jumpy. Set it down to medium, that helped but why would it recommend very high when its really bad? And shouldn't my system be able to run it well at very high? Is my processor bottleneckin?

Very his a no no I read in the Crysis forum that people with the ultra cards can not play it on very high.

Is that the best clocks you can get out of your 8800? If so i think it'll be the worst clocker ever. :D

Yeah but when I do the automatically pick settings it puts it all at very high, but it doesn't run very well @ that...

Also I haven't installed the new driver beta for crysis, so I'm going to do that and do the same level over and see what happens.... tommorrow of course :p
also whats kind of funny, even at medium settings the game still looks really good.... lol!

I just played a bit of it and it doesn't run well on my rig. Any movement drops the frames to a nearly unplayable level. I will try to get some more detailed information later as to the FPS and my specs. :(

This game more or less NEEDS the 8800. Even at reasonably small resolutions, the 7 series cards are going to suffer. Not to mention every card lower than a 2900 on the ATI side.
This is truly a next-gen game, and requires a next gen (or high-end current gen) pc in order to play it.
Its almost like its GLQuake all over again :o

I was run at my friends yesterday and is dad as a Quad Core cpu and 4 gig of 1066 memory and 2 8800 Ultra cards in SLI and the game will not play very well in Very high setting I believe now the EA have screwed up in a Very Big way this time.

EA did not make this game!!!!! Crytek did. This is a demo. and not a full release.

True. EA no more made this game than they made The Orange Box (which they also publish).
As for performance, I'm not sure what people were expecting. There is no magic bullet of graphics performance. You can optimize and optimize and optimize all you want.....at some point you just have to have enough raw power to push the pixels. Or get a crappy looking version of the game.
There's nothing close to the scale, complexity or detail as Crysis at the moment. UT3 is the closest, but it lacks in deformable foliage/buildings and humongous single levels like Crysis has. I'm sure they may be able to optimize it a little bit more, but I'm doubting that it will get too much better than this. In a market crowded with games catering to the LCD, I'm glad someone is still pushing the envelope. :)
Addendum:
When Quake 3 came out, it put a serious hurt on people's machines...to the point where few could run it on high settings. In time, people upgraded, and the benchmarks kept getting better and better, heck, until now even integrated video can run it well.
Give it time. Just because the top of the line uber machine can't crush it right now doesn't mean that's a bad thing. It just means they have a lot of upward mobility. Of course, that also means their sales numbers won't be as high either, but that is the price for being cutting edge.

Here is the first level @ high settings, 1024 x 1280, 2x AA.
2007-10-28 06:34:17 - Crysis
Frames: 39140 - Time: 1547073ms - Avg: 25.299 - Min: 1 - Max: 217
Specs:
E6850 @ 3.0 GHz
8800 GTX (Stock speed)
2 Gig RAM
Performance at 1680x1050 , settings on High with no AA is between 25-45 FPS depending on the situation.
I don't know how you guys enable Very High since in my install, Very High is not available and is greyed out. :?
AA on this game will tank pretty well any card. Way too much on any given scene to render.
P.S. I love the speed boost of the suit.

Ok, with the new driver I'm getting about 31-35 fps average in most areas. It drops to single digits for firefights in the middle of the jungle though. :P
