Well whats your favorite kit?
For me - While I love medic and I play it a lot, I'd have to go with sniper... nothing beats seeing an ubered medic and heavy and the moment the uber goes out that heavy goes down.

Depends on the map and the team?s need. I like to try and fit a role that no one else is doing.
Engineer, Medic, Sniper, Heavy are by far my top most played.
Spy and Pyro in a second group. Then Soldier, and Demo / Scout at the far bottom of the list.
I love the Sniper though

Pyro when I want to mess up an enemy teams offense. When I get a medic to follow me and Uber at the right moment I can burn 5 of them to a crisp !!! Nothing is as fun as being on Gravel Pit and sneaking in behind the whole team as they push to cap C and here I come around the corner ...
I then rush back out into the safety of the courtyard as they all retreat and I then hit the 'G' key to hear that maniacal laugh thru the gas mask.
*weapon raised over head* aHhAHaHAHAAA !!! :D

Soldier boy or Demoman. Both have the ability to close down an entire entrypoint. 8)
I'm going to place sniper at the bottom of the list because its purely situational IMO. Need long fields of fire and someone watching your back in order to be really effective.

Best all around kit: Soldier. He's the jack of all trades, master of none. Best solo class, and also good in swarms.
My favorites:
Demoman - with a good team backing him up, he can be absolutely devestating (far more than even a soldier)
Heavy - At first I didn't like playing him too much, because I thought he was just a big target. But after getting used to his movement speed and how to direct traffic with Sasha, I've rarely had as much fun as when Me, Sasha, and a capable medic get going. There is NOTHING quite like hopping right into the middle of an enemy nest, and then watching with glee as the kill list just starts scrolling down the right hand side with lots and lots of minigun kills :D
Medic is a good all around class, in so much as any good offense needs at least one capable medic keeping the drive alive (one word: BONESAAAAAAAAAW! )

Having been on the receiving end of that bonesaw of yours a couple of times the other day (grrrr), and being able to testify to its effectiveness, I find it odd that I've never seen anyone else meleeing with a medic. I never even saw you coming, O Speedy Sawer of Bones.
I'd have to agree that Soldier is the most versatile class. I usually choose an Engineer, a Pyro, or a Demoman depending on what role needs to be filled, but if I don't see anything specific then a Soldier is always helpful somewhere. The Scout is fun on certain maps and an easy way to rack up quick points. Haven't played the Heavy too much yet (although it was my favorite class in TFC), and I think I have less than 2 minutes playtime with the Sniper, Medic and the Spy.
The Engineer is probably my favorite class, having a Sentry Gun to whack baddies, a Dispenser to heal myself and others, and running around shooting faces with the shotgun is a blast. Unfortunately I tend to get bored with babysitting the Sentry from spies and go a-blasting, and right when I'm too far away to save it my Sentry gets sapped.

Anybody notice how the Medic can hold their own against the Soldiers under most conditions ?? Even with a distinct weapon and health disadvantage ??? iMaybe its just me, but when I'm a Med and I see a Soldier, I go fill his face full of needles. I'm too fast for him to hit, so his only chance is a splash damage hit.
I've noticed on the map Well that Soldier's can't fire down at the ground due to the flattop hauler trains in between the fighting and I just pepper those poor slow Soldiers with needle crits.

Yep, I was able to bring down 2 soliders in the same round with my needle gun. Was playing 2Fort and waited for them to drop from the balcony to needle them in the back. They went down somewhat fast. Tried my luck with a Heavy and he just turned and swatted me dead. lol
Scouts are nearly impossible to take down as a Medic.

I tend to end up blowing myself to pieces with my own rockets going toe-to-toe with a Medic, unless I can catch him at a pretty good distance.

Right now I like pyro the best. 2nd favorite would be medic, if they would improve his offense a little, I would play it the most.

Medic has a GREAT offensive weapon, its in slot #2 :2thumbs:
Seriously though, they did this on purpose. Back in TFC, medics were more about highlflying acrobatics and infecting the enemy than actually healing teammates. In a game where you can cross the field in seconds, and there is no respawn timer, the ability to heal loses most of its usefulness.
TF2 is a lot more about teamwork. A good medic can keep several teammates alive, which means he's more vital to a good push than any one offensive player. And as Thrash witnessed, the bonesaw is actually quite an effective weapon when used properly in tandem with the medic's extra speed (think like a scout, hit like a soldier  ). Needlegun is no slouch either, but the aiming is so off and combined with my lag, I rarely prefer it over the saw.

Absolute favorite kit is Engineer. Pull out the wrench and go to work! A lot of people use the Engineer solely for defensive purposes, but I use him even on offensive maps. Sentries can make great offensive or defense weapons, if placed in the right position. Placing them in areas that will often flank targets helps keep some of the fire off your friendlies, but also helps your friendlies dish out death a little faster.
The Dispenser is great for backup, in absence of a Medic. Having in a safe corner to re-fill health and re-stock ammo is great. Or, place is out there and let the Heavy go at it. Quite a few different ways to use it.
My favorite, though, is the Teleporters. Bringing a Heavy or Soldier back to the front lines just seconds after they spawn can do wanders for your offense. For those people who hate wading back to the battle, I feel good knowing that I'm cutting their travel time by a lot. :D Engineers are labeled "defensive" but I think Dispensers and Teleporters are even more handy when your team is on the offensive.

I would have to say Pyro. This class may not be the best at any one area other then showing who is or is not a spy but they are extremely valuable to any team. Any Pyro with no sense of fear or self worth can slow, or stop, an enemy incursion on your base. The flame can kill smaller classes quickly and make most of the stronger classes run looking for water or a medic. They work under of the rule of "Not having to kill to help turn the battle".

can't pick a best single class. However.....
Best class for defense - Engineer, by far. You've got your dispencer which can heal you and give you ammo, you've got your sentry which, when fully upgraded, can take care of your medium-semi medium range, and then yourself to take care of those pesky spys who try to sap your stuff!
Offense would have to be the demo man. Simple reason is that you can clear a room without having to be in it, so long as you have a wall to bounce your grenades off of. True, their midrange isn't the greatest, but 9/10 times there is something you can run behind and throw a sticky or two down to kill the person following you.

My favorite is Pyro. I just love running around lighting people up! After that, I'd say Medic, ENgineer, Heavy, Demo, and Soldier. I play most kits, depending on my mood and the map. :) DOn't really play scout, sniper, or spy much, though...

I haven't played, but (surprisingly for me) I chose demoman. I hated RDX in 2142 and BF2, but in quake wars it's always nice to carry around some HE charges to destroy the enemy turrets :D

This poll shows what's really nice about TF2: No one class totally dominates, and every person can find a class that's good for them. I mean, at the time of this post there were 24 votes and no one class had more than 16% of the total. That's really shows the balance.

+1.
A well-rounded team is a vicious one to defeat. Contrary to popular belief, having 8 out of your 16 members going Engineer is not a good defense. 2 Soldiers/Snipers/Demomen/Spies (with proper back-up) working together can kill almost any turret(s). The classes have such diverse weaponry and advantages, that you never quite know when you'll need that one guy to really pull through for the team.

My fav is the Engineer - though I still have to stumble thru my number keys to find my wrench when something is getting sapped. It goes off way too fast to find/remove it while trying to watch your back and figure out where the heck the Spy got off too. :D I also like to play Medic and Pyro.

I'm still experimenting. Tried to Heal the Ice Lady yesterday,
but kept getting waxed before my uber charge tapped..
Guess I'm too much a newb on Engy to get it.
Have seen people build Resupply and gun in seems like 10 seconds.
I haven't figured out how to Build anything yet on purpose. Seems to just
sit there on the screen. oh well. trial and error..
I've never had trouble being support. Let the hard chargers take the damage, and I'll clean up the mess. :2thumbs:

Engy is very different on TF2 than TFC.
To build something you press #4, that will bring up a list of things you can build. The select the number of the item you want to build. If you want to build a Sentry Gun, I suggest that you build a resupply first. Now that you can also heal people with the resupply, it's a great thing.
Once you select what you want to build, it will display a blue print on the ground, move it around so that's facing the right way. Not important on a resupply, but ABSOLUTELY imperative on a Sentry Gun.... You can't turn or re-align the Sentry Gun once it's built, like you could in TFC.
If you build your Sentry Gun close enough to the resupply, you won't even have to move to load up and bang the wrench on your Sentry Gun.

If you're playing defense as and engy, always always place a tele entrance down right outside of your spawn if you can. All you have to do is go back inside and go to a locker to resupply. Takes about 3 seconds and now you've already halfway to being able to get people to the frontlines quickly. You don't even have to hit it with a wrench, simply let it build itself and go off and guild your resupply/sentry while it goes up.

Please remember when building the transport exit to face it into the battle. Too many people build it facing into a corner. That leaves you exposed as you figure it out and turn around.
