From this interview (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6199634.html) w/ Mark Rein:
"Our arrangement with Midway isn't a license but rather a straight publishing agreement and Midway is still very much the publisher of Unreal Tournament 3," he said. "In fact, we're working together on a major expansion that we expect will excite and grow our UT3 customer base."
If it follows anything like the ECE Bonus Pack for 2K4 I will be more than happy for the goodies...hopefully it will take the form of free DLC for the PS3...:D

I reall do enjoy a lil UT action every now and then, but I've mainly stayed offline and played bots. I played a few times online and its just sad to see any servers well populated.
We had such high hopes for this game, and it fundamentally is a good game, but its just not anything new for the old UT crowd to make them think its a worthwhile purchase.
I'd love to see the UT community get behind this and bring the online numbers up, so we shall see what happens.

I hope an expansion would be for all platforms, because I'm worried about the PC version. Seems to have done much better on PS 3 than the PC, but I've got it on the PC.

Really the same thing happened w/ 2K3...graphically it was miles above UT'99 but it didn't add anything significant thus didn't draw in the numbers. This was especially true when games like BF1942 started showing up w/ large player counts and vehicle play...something the UT series never had until 2K4.
UT3 probably does a little better on the PS3 (not sure on the 360 numbers) because it's different and new for that crowd. Although it still tends to get overlooked for other FPS games that offer rewards and unlocks for online play or ones w/ longer single player storylines.

I enjoy playing it on the PC.
If they bring back the assault mode and get rid of the lame console main menu / server browser this game will be a winner.

This is something I could never really understand w/ each UT game...all the fuss over the user interface. I mean once you find the right settings, favorite servers, ect...how important is the interface then?
I might spend about 10 seconds at the menu unless I'm trying out a custom map (which might add about 5 seconds) so for me it's not even a blip on the radar.

+1. Once I rebind my keys, get the settings right, and figure out how to get into a server, I could care less.

I still play this at least 5 to 10 hours a week. I usually only play at one server running VCTF and using enhanced weapons. It is a blast and has a whack of us regulars there. It's too bad it hasn't caught on, I guess the grand UT days are over for good...

Well it looks UT3 will get a big revision in addition to the expansion.

Looks like a lot of the issues the community had will be addressed in the next update, and the positive thing is, this is only part one of a two part update, the next update is going be called TITAN PACK with new gametypes! :D

Theres one Expansion pack but it's coming in two stages, stage one will be a patch that takes care of quite a few issues with the game and the second will be the titan pack which adds new gametypes/maps.

I like most of the updates. Sounds like they are bringing back a lot of the good things they did in 2K4 and what made 99 great to begin with. If this holds true, this will explode. We may see ONS come back here.....

I am looking forward to this!

Maybe Cain will host a huge UT3 server one day?!?:D

At any rate this should help boost the UT3 numbers up a bit.
I'm still enjoying this game on the PS3 and since you can get it for less than $20 the online numbers have been steadly growing. Not sure what will carry over to the PS3 or 360 but it's good to hear Epic is still adding new features to a game that was released in Nov of '07...:2thumbs:

Just got this from the Steam update news...
Steam now accepts retail keys from Unreal Tournament 3. There?s a massive update for Unreal Tournament 3 on the way from Epic and you can get ready for it by either buying UT3 or activating a product key you already have. UT3 will be updated automatically via Steam and introduce support for Steamworks Achievements (with over 50 Achievements), plus a host of new features and enhancements in AI, Server Browsing, Demo Recording, Mod Support, and more.

Too bad you have to redownload the whole UT3 DVD in order to play via steam...
So better predownload sooner than later!

Sounds like fun to me, I recently reinstalled the game and had a blast with the sniper rifle and rocket launcher. I find this game to be highly underrated, because even though it is closer to Gears of War than Unreal Tournament 2004, it is still an incredibly addictive game, it's a shame that it never got popular enough for the Lair to keep a server up.

If you already own UT3 and want to activate it on Steam, here is a method that is supposed to help avoid the full download from Steam:
Source: Steam News (http://store.steampowered.com/news/2204/)
Go to the My Games tab, press 'Activate a product on Steam' and enter in the Key.
Follow this tip to avoid downloading the game (if it tries to make you).
Installation from disk:
*install unreal to the computer from the dvd
*copy the unreal files from program files (c:\program files\) into the common folder (steam\steamapps\common)
*right click UT3 directory and untick read-only, apply to all files and sub-dirs
*uninstall UT3 (this removes all registry entries)
*open steam and register UT3 cd-key
*start install of unreal on steam but stop it after 2%
*right click on unreal game and select property's
*go to the last tab and select "verify integ of game cache"
*let this finish
*now start the install process and it should check all the files you copied across
[in short:]
1) Copy original installation to the Steam directory.
2) Register and make Steam see the files are already there.
YMMV

Yeah, I already found out the hard way about the Steam install after activation. At least it was smart enough to link to my existing profile and saves.

I think you will have to in order to get the unlocks etc.
At first I thought they would get rid of Gamespy: But that isn't the case.
You have to log on steam -> log in via Gamespy -> play online...

Unless I missed something, I don't think there are any unlocks. Only achievement awards. (Big whoop)
