Me and my friends at school have been arguing all week about which show is better. I think Family Guy is way better (although South Park is still an awesome show). Then I thought to myself and said I should bring this to CL. What is your opinion?

I used to watch SP but it seems to me to have lost some of it's shock value over the years. FG to me is great, STEWIE GRIFFIN FOR PRESIDENT!

It seems that the majority of the older crowd is the group that likes Family Guy and the majority of the younger crowd is the group that likes South Park (I am going by the assumption that most of the people on the forums are adults). But that is just based on the votes right now.

I used to love Family Guy, until it started to think it was too good, and now Quagmire is like a real character and theres no plot
also, once South Park did those 2 episodes ripping FamGuy a new one and pointing out all the crap it does, i just cant laugh at the random "its like that time" jokes FG does anymore
SO ... SP ftw!

I cannot choose between the two. Both are equally brilliant.

of course, anything past season 10 is horrible. season 1 sucked also, but 2 through 10 were awesome.

as for southpark or family guy, i'd say simpsons. family guy could be renamed to "Remember the Time..." and southpark is just a bunch of bleeps.

south park was good when it first came out because it brought "anime" to the common viewer. They also broke all the rules on what 3rd graders were supposed to know/say and for that reason they were great when they first came out....I agree that it's lost it's value completely though. Every once in awhile they'll have something worth watching, but the odds of that happening very often are rare and not worth watching through all the crap to get to.
Family guy is better to me because I haven't watched it quite as much and it's not worn out yet ;)

Um...no. South Park is nothing at all like Anime (except for the Chimpokomon episode of course). And the show that really introduced anime to the American audience is Robotech, which came out more than a decade before South Park.
And on another note, the Simpsons haven't had a truly great episode since before Ian Maxtone Graham became head writer. That's been almost 10 years now. :x

I have noticed that these shows have a political bias. The Simpson?s is clearly republican. I believe that Family Guy is democratic. I hate South Park because they're Canadian haters and no one likes to have their country made fun of.

Google, define: anime
The Japanese contraction and pronunciation of the English word animation. Anime refers to traditional hand painted cel animation, but also applies to animation created in part or in whole by Computers.
Japanese for "animation". This is taken from the French word for animation. An accent mark may be used over the "e". Japanese animation is often called "anime".
Japanese for 'animation'. 'Anime can range from the very silly to the very serious, and is not necessarily intended for children or any specific age group.'
In general, Japanese animation.
animation, cartoons
anim? is the Japanese word for animation and is used by the Japanese to describe all forms of animation
A style of animation that originated in Japan, characterized by stark colorful graphics, depicting characters in action-filled plots.
Japanese loan word for animated movies and animation. Probably borrowed from French or English.

Okay, you get the point, anime = animations. I'm not an avid anime fan, and don't wish to ruffle the feathers of those that think anime is a more specific genre. To me, this is what it is, they're cartoons.
Robotech may have been the first "anime" to come to America, but I've never heard of it so I am assuming it wasn't available to the common viewer.

If you're going to go to that kind of basic level with it, then in actuality Steamboat Willie brought "Anime" to America, since to you "anime" is just a Japanese word meaning "animation." Old school Mickey Mouse, that predates even Apache Warrior.
And yes, Robotech WAS available to the common public. It was on network tv. I used to come home after elementary school and watch it. This was the mid 80s, and I didn't have cable then.
And thinking back even before that, you can trace true anime in America to Speed Racer. That was probably the first to cross the pacific, though by no means am I an expert. But that was something like late 60s I believe.

i'm pretty sure that wasn't a jab at family guy. i think it was done more out of respect/appreciation.

Flinstones is just a rip off of some older cartoon or child show.
The Flintstones were the first prime time adult cartoon program broadcast in the US.
