If we have the patent...I can look it over. But only if it's actually in my File Room. Which is pretty dang big. Over 55,000 files and me and two other DSA's have to keep track of them all. Let's not forget the loose filing and documents that go into them!

HA! That is all I eat when she goes away on business trips. Sandwich for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, sandwich for dinner...I used to think I was a good cook until I met Minnie. Imagine being really good at single player BF2, then joining multiplayer and having someone pwn you repeatedly. After awhile, you really don't want to play anymore, do you? :D I wal only kidding.

My degree is in Electrical Engineering but I've been a software engineer for about 8 years now. I worked for IBM for several years as a product engineer after college, designing networking hardware, which also included writing software for the hardware... and just reached a point where I decided I liked the software side better then the hardware side.

:2thumbs: Prior Air Force myself.

I was four years active and six in the Air National Guard.

I was a civil engineering troop (electrician) when active, a satellite/wideband communications tech when in the Guard - went to tech school for that in Biloxi. Think the tech school for electrician is at Sheppard AFB but I went DDA right out of basic.

Anyway, thanks for serving, guys! The same goes for all the other vets here. Freedom isn't free.

I don't think Qualcomm has the patent but, it directly attributed to CDMA.
She was a B movie actress around the time of WWII. completely ahead of her time.

Hedy Lamarr (under her then-married name of Hedy Kiesler Markey) and composer George Antheil received U.S. Patent 2,292,387 for their Secret Communication System on August 11, 1942. This early version of frequency hopping used a piano roll to change between 88 frequencies and was intended to make radio-guided torpedoes harder for enemies to detect or jam.

This idea was controversial and ahead of its time and technology. The technology was not implemented until 1962, when it was used by U.S. military ships during a blockade of Cuba,[3] after the patent had expired. Neither Lamarr nor Antheil (who died in 1959) made any money from the patent. Perhaps due to this lag in development, the patent was little-known until 1997, when the Electronic Frontier Foundation gave Lamarr an award for this contribution.[1]

Lamarr's frequency-hopping idea served as the basis for modern spread-spectrum communication technology used in devices ranging from cordless telephones to WiFi Internet connections. The technology in particular that is often attributed to her and George Antheil is CDMA.[4]

Lamarr wanted to join the National Inventors Council but she was told that she could better help the war effort by using her celebrity status to sell War Bonds. She once raised $7,000,000 at just one event.
