Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for when getting a new one?
We're not looking for anything too expensive, just something to replace the piece of junk we have now.

I bought the Black & Decker 18v Grass Hog set (known as the Lawn Care Center) for under $190 and it does a very nice job. You get a hedge trimmer, weedeater and a light duty blower in this set. The hedge trimmer and weedeater are good for a smallish lawn, but the blower is clearly the weak link in this trio.

Set comes with three rechargable batteries which last about 25 minutes per charge, but I rarely use all three, as the weedeater and blower get used every weekend, but the hedger is maybe once a month or less so far.
This does a great job for anyone with less than 1 acre of land, but I was tired of the constant 2 cycle mixing or hard starting, and this got rid of all of my yard annoyances in one fell swoop.

DO NOT GET AN ELECTRIC. It is more of a pain than it is worth. I have a black and decker 4 stroke that has never taken more than 2 pulls to start, eats almost no fuel, and is almost as lightweight as an electric.

A weed trimmer is for trimming grass not removing weeds.

We bought Troy-Bilts old 20 Acre Production Facilty in 2002 and are moving some of our operations their as we speak.
Needless to say the brand name should now say " Mexico Built ":twisted:
In their day Troy Bilt pushed out over 1,000 small engine products a week
