Everyone should download this.

http://www.fraps.com/download.php

Not only does it calculate real-time FPS and provides statistical benchmarks, but you can record a segment of your game in an uncompressed video format or better, take a screenshot of any game, at any time, under any condition. I was playing Oblivion, when I found that I can't take a screenshot if the anti-aliasing was on. With fraps you can. When I play UT2004, I get the correct FPS rather than some strange number give by UT. Also screenshots taken by fraps doesn't slow down the computer as much as taking it with the game.

Here is something I have been using for many years and have never had a problem with it or it causing a problem with something else.

http://www.iespell.com/

ieSpell is a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a webpage. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of web-based text entry (e.g. web mails, forums, blogs, diaries). Even if your web application already includes spell checking functionality, you might still want to install this utility because it is definitely much faster than a server-side solution. Plus you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications, instead of maintaining separate ones on each application.

It's sits in the browser "tools" pulldown. It's small, simple and fast also well coded.

Good idea to start this thread in here as well. :2thumbs:

One of the coolest programs out there is now free. Vmware server is now free. Vmware server allows your to emulate a hardware enviroment in software. It's very badass. For example I run a Linux server in my house. However I have replaytvs (tivo like device) theres a software tool for my replays that does a bunch of cool things but, It only runs in windows. No prob dig up vmware. Install it launch it. Then install windows. You can connect to the instance of the windows machine over the network or from the local desktop. It's just not for linux either. You can run it on Windows and install Linux as an instance too. This obviously isn't something you want running when your playing games but, it's a very handy tool.

http://www.vmware.com/products/server/

As for network monitors theres the best packet capture for windows Wireshark (used to be Ethereal) at http://www.wireshark.org/
and of course netstumbler a wifi scanner http://www.netstumbler.com/

Actually if you want free network tools go to http://sectools.org/

compiled by the maker of nmap. It covers free, commercial, unix and windows based tools. Very informative.

Due to Ipod's DRM, i don't think its possible. you have to use itunes to do it from a CD if im not mistake.

I don't know about most of you but i use dual monitors, i have always loved my dual monitor setup also. The thing i didn't like was the fact i didn't have a taskbar on the extended display. There is a program out there you can try for free and buy, but i thought i might look around and see if i can find a free version thats like it and i found Oscar's Multi-Monitor taskBar, its not as fancy as the one you can buy but i like it and works quite well and 100% free, no spyware nothing

Windows ultimate boot cd

http://www.ubcd4win.com/

I've used this thing so much in the last 6 months to save peoples machines. These computers were totally dead due to virus's or hard drive failures and this thing brought them back.

These were instances where I normally would have just done a reformat and start over. This allows you to boot windows into memory and run a plethora of aps.

It just has so many tools, a great support forum on the site, and it's free. Definitely a great thing to stuff in the tool bag.

Slipstream your windows installation, doesn't support vista I think....

http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html

Really handy so if you want to include SP's and hotfixes you can easily add them to your windows installation disk.

Can't believe I forgot to post this little gem till now....

Hate having to always hunt for a desired application or folder window on the Windows Taskbar? Ever wish you could easily reorganize the position of the taskbar buttons or the System Tray icons?

Well, now you can, with this simple, lite, and intuitive little utility:

Taskbar Shuffle (http://www.freewebs.com/nerdcave/taskbarshuffle.htm)

Should work with all versions of Windows, including Vista (though I've only tested it with XP). Uses no more than 4MB of memory, so it has almost zero impact on system performance. It boggles my mind why this hasn't been added by MS as a core windows feature.

Enjoy :2thumbs:
