Having graduated from college a couple of years ago, I missed the Facebook craze. I wasn't fully aware of just how pervasive it is until I was walking around my old campus (U of Maryland) in between meetings with the City of College Park last week, and overheard someone ask "you're in Facebook, right? Not that I would have used it when I was in school anyway. IM was good enough then, and I wouldn't have bothered posting any photos anyway :D
