I think the good ole' standby of MUDs needs a new slogan to bring them into the 21st Century.
How about "MUDs. The World of Warcraft for people who can read?"
Seriously though, have a good life, what's left of it. From what I see, anyone who begins paying for WOW gets sucked in for eternity. All part of Blizzard's insidious plan to conquer the Earth, with only the bugmasters of EA standing in their path.

I played that game for exactly one year... and did it hurt to cancel my account!
You may think that this game is not addicting, but in time you will notice how everytime you need to log-off there is still that "One more quest! One more level! One more epic purple!!!" It never ends because there will always be something better out there for you to work towards. So, I recommend you stop playing this game BEFORE you notice that your weekends flew-by and you did absolutely nothing but sit in front of your computer playing WoW
This, of course, is advise from a stranger over the internet... but it is still advise from someone who has played that game addictively

boy was I shocked when I came home ten minutes ago and when I try and log in: Your pre-paid time has been used up. Please buy more to continue playing.
I got a scare, but tommorrow I'm goin to the mall and getting a card. phewph!
And do I need the $20 CD or can I just use the DL I got from the free trial and use a monthly pay card on that?

...And "paying" for a BF2142 Server is different how?? Oh wait....I meant Cain and I with a small select few "paying". I don't see the difference here :?
Hmmm. Let me try and break it down.
1. Pay for a BF Server and play "player vs player" aka "PvP."
2. Play countless hours every night attempting to earn "badges, medals, etc.."
3. Pay to play WoW and play "player vs player" aka "PvP."
4. Play countless hours attempting to earn pieces or "armor, gear, etc.."
I still love first person shooters. The only reason I don't play on Cains is because BF2 after the 1.3 patch was the last straw for me and I will not waste my time playing that POS game. Everyone has their reason's.
All of ya need to stop drinking soo much Hatoraide 8)

I wondered where you had disappeared to !! You recovering from WOW yet ???
I have lost many god friends into the WOW world, and they get really touchy about it when you tease them about getting sucked in, or being addicted to that game.
They sound just like anyone addicted to anything else.
"I can stop when I want to"
"You are just jealous of me"
"I am not addicted to this"... etc....
I had a friend playing it 20 hrs per day !!! Lost his job, got kicked out of school, and through it all he kept saying he was not addicted to this game.
Forget the monthly subscription fee, what you lose is your free time.

I've sold some MMO characters online for up to $600. But man, 2k? Thats insane!
WoW is a good game, probably one of the better ones out there. What they do, they do well, very polished and fun to play. Not too challenging though, which is why I stopped when BC came out. I played from Nov 06 - Jan 07.
Having played MMOs from 96-today, you seriously get sick of the old carrot in front of the donkey style of developpement. All the new games coming out are going the same way.
Its still fun to play for a while.
And yes, they are very addictive. People get very consumed with these games, very quickly. Its actually pretty scary.

I moved in w/ my gf. When I moved out of my appartment, a neighbor gave me all of his pc games and one of them was an unopened copy of WOW. I installed it but then decided I did not want to pay a monthly fee I cannot afford(child support is expensive when you have 3 kids). My gf's brother has been playing for over a year now and bought me a 6 month subscription. I am a lvl 21 human warrior on Rexxar. The game is fun and slightly addictive. I just found my BF2142 disk so I will be playing that some more as well. Also got a free copy of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Man that game is fun as is C&C 3.
I got The Orange Box and I love TF2 and Episode 2. Man o man there is just not enough time in the day.
Anyhow take care all.

The game is addictive period. Let me ask you all this though. Have you really played a video game that isn't?
I mean isn't that why we all come back for more night after night? Be it UT, CS, BF or WoW console or computer game?
I actively played UT Since it has come out year after year. Then I left when Cain pulled the CTF server to play WoW.
Can I say I love WoW more then UT. That is a hard call. Both were addictive though. I have played both extensively.
I guess when it boils down to it most everything we do in life that we enjoy are addictive, that is why we always go back for more.
Moderation is the key of course. Not letting your RL and Gaming life collide is easier said then done, plenty have tried few have mastered.
The first step to WoW is understanding it is never ending. There is always gear, quests and pvp to do. Guess what though the server goes on with or with out you. Things are going to happen when you are logged off.
THe game plays hard on the "satisfaction factor". After a night of questing, raiding, pvping, you feel satisfied with the reward or "loot" you received but then are so hungry for more you come back night after night for hours on end.
Once you realize the trick in how to get just as great of gear not raiding and wasting so much time playing, the game becomes truly amazing.
There are so many ways to level a character from 0-70 in a months time you no longer have to spend so much time grinding.
It is just like any thing though you have to have a good understanding of the game and your limitations and the shortest route in how to achieve what you want. That is when the game is just pure fun. I have two extremely well geared lvl 70 alliance characters a warrior and hunter.
I stopped playing alliance on Mannorith now I am playing a Blood Elf warlock on horde Cho`gall side. I have leveled the lock to 69 in maybe a month and a half and that is playing a few hours a night before I go to sleep.
Just always remember it is just a game. Real Life loot is better then gaming loot.

But all things considering world of warcraft will go down in history as one of (if not) the best mmo game of all time. But the true testament of a good game is when the majority of the people who buy it, end up loving it from the min they make a char for the next 2 years. Not many games these days can keep people as long as mmo`s do.
As far as price EA is as close to a MMO company as ever. bf2, SF, EF, 2142, NS etc etc. Basically EA does what mmo companies do. Make little additions to the game (adding content) then charge you for it.

Just Back AWAY from the computer... You can do it.. :)
At one time I was a 7 day a week, 4-6 hours a day, Raid guild warrior.
MC runs Every Night just about.
Soooooo
Actually, I have a lvl 60 dwarf paladin.
Level 70 Mage on horde side
Level 70 Blood elf Lock on horde side with Epic flappy.
Level 62 Undead Shadow Priest on horde side.
Best thing that ever happened to me, was my account got raped.
(Keylogger Hack)
EVERYTHING was taken and sold from my toons, down to their undies.
It took them nearly a month to restore them for me. Minus the enchants.
During that down-time, I started playing 2142, and found The Lair. :2thumbs: So I play less now, but I play on Cain's Servers when I DO play. :D
Now I might go a week without playing WOW at all. Too much drama in the guild I am currently in. Not enough Kara runs, either not enough people online, or too MANY and can't get a slot. Politics rears its ugly head even in WOW. Might even consider moving on to another server. The one I'm on now is packed full, high player count. PVE server.
Something you should consider. Horde side USUALLY has the older more mature players. And horde has the newby zone called the Barrens, where the kids all congregate and spam away on chat.. lol Can get annoying if you are there to fish for the special fish in the ponds. Deviant Delight FTW

I thought about playing this game but to me I don't really have the time.
Snake-Eyes
1st Nov 2007, 05:18 PM
I have played both. Horde to me is the better of the two by far. Instant queue times for BG's are ftw.
THe alliance guild I was in on mannorith is one step away from Killing Illidan. It got to be too much for me raiding every night and to be honest in the end it is just not worth it for what you give up in real life.
I then joined Horde on a different server and do nothing now but quest casually and pvp all the time. I do BG's and world pvp when ever I can.
That has always been the real fun for me any way. You would think being in Black temple, seeing all the end game content would provide you with some sense of satisfaction but it really didn't for me.
It became to much like a second job.
Now the game is pure fun for me with 0% stress. The way is actually should be.

Exactly... Good show... :2thumbs:
People get all wrapped up in getting Tier 4/5 gear, and forget why they
came to play in the first place.
Guess that's why i'm only a VERY occassional player now.
A friend of mine can usually talk me into logging in to help him on quests.
(My Lock is a Killing MACHINE) But that is usually only 1 day a week at most. I just don't feel the overwhelming urge to log in for hours at a
time anymore.
The ADDICTION is GONE!!! YAY!!! Who says you can't walk away.. lol
