Hope glimmers again....... BF2 Ranked

Well I have been beating on Trinity and now I'm wearing them down.

You see when most people get a big server they think they can fill it up, but they rarely do. Usually when we put up a server, we really do fill it up - Trinity knows that now so they wanted to charge us close to what it really costs for bandwidth....

OK here is the deal, they now have guaranteed me that the server will not go higher than $140/month even slammed full 24/7 at 64 players and we start out at $89/month...

So lemme ask again (Jeffro please spare us this time dude!!)..... Who is willing to make a monthly donation to keep this server up and running???

For me it is the teamwork and comraderie that BF2 brings. COD4 is usually silent until the end of the round and even then it's not the same.

funny I see this now, I'm reinstalling it so I can start playing again. Even before I saw this thread.

Tails and I will be donating on a monthly basis, so I guess you can chalk up some more donations for BF2 or whatever else it needs to go to.

I'd really like to see the BF2 server make a comeback. I enjoyed 2142, but it just felt like a step backwards from BF2 sometimes. I miss the squad/teamwork based gameplay that BF2 brought.

Hmm. Well, since I bought BF2 for PC back before I got COD4, but never really played it, I guess if this happens, I can install and play it finally! For real this time, not just load up, walk around on a map, then stop playing.

And with money starting to come in soon, perhaps a decent donation will be possible. I like the idea of lifer...

This could be fun. I'd probably suck at it... I should probably install and start practicing.

I never did play a single game of BF2, but I had tried the demo, and my #1 (and only) gripe is the lack of support for movement keys, ie: I can't bind movement keys to both KB and mouse.
No one has a workaround for it, other than to scrap my ageless oddball setup and try WASD, but I'd rather sit this one out than try something that just doesn't work for me. After using the same movement config for 6+ years, its not as easy as it sounds to change ..

Anyhoo, reread my comment ... I'm not USING WASD, but I said I hated the thought of trying it.

Here's my bindings for reference:

Fwd - Right mouse
Back - X
Turn Left - Z
Turn Right - C
Fire - Left mouse

You can't do that in BF2 ... I should take a long hard look at the Nostromo N52 at this point.

WT, I use the arrow keys for my movement, but because BF2 has so many keys you need to use I moved over to the far right number keypad, and now I have all the keys I need within easy reach.....

You really should be able to set up BF2 any way you like, the initial set-up is a huge Pain but beyond that it is fine.

I used to be stuck using the (UnrealTourney) keys U,D,L,R, CTRL, SHIFT, but I got used to using BF2 setup when I got it. I thought I'd never get used to WASD, but it only took a few hours and a couple chopper crashes to get it goin and now I like it better. I am one hell of a BF2 chopper pilot. Me and a couple huey gunners have worked over on Wake Island. I got tired of people throwing C4 on my gunship so I quit using the attack choppers.

P.S. the Wal-Mart joystick for 19.00 will change the entire game for those who use keyboard ctrls for choppers.

Bar, my head hurts after reading all of those ... geez, its just too much to remember !! I like Cain's idea, but my other keys are all on the left side of the kboard-

Q - sprint
L Shift - alt fire
L Ctrl - crouch
L Alt - prone

Actually it is very easy to remember.. I keep all my game very similar to each other. COD4 is the excepttion because they had to make the game a PITA. It will take me a while to get back into a groove again... So if you want to knife Bar BF2 style... get it now... lol :D

I loved the BF2142 experience on Cains Lair Titan, but because nearly everyone here claims that 2142 was crap compared to BF2, I might spring for it.

To remove intro movies go to Program File/EA/Battlefield2/Mods/BF2/Movies. Rename all of the file extensions. I use .backup.

Add +szx 1680 +szy 1050 to the target on your shortcut. Properties then target. Change the numbers to your resolution.

Auto Start: +restart +playerName yourname +playerPassword *****

Add the auto start to the end.

Does anyone remember if your account is tied to a specific key or can you use the same account on a different key install? I was thinking about going and picking up the Complete Collection just to have everything (never did get SF so might as well get them all at once :eek:). I just don't want to give up my rankings and stuff if I get a new copy, though I guess it's not that big a deal really to start fresh lol. Anyway, if we do get this going then I'll have a vanilla copy of BF2 that someone could have. :2thumbs:
